Oh I love Escape From Atlantis. The edition you have has brilliant pieces. The new version is good (Survive) but I think the pieces aren't as good in comparison.

So, my bday today - was supposed to get Survive, but mum 'messed up' and I got 7 Wonders instead! Still, looking forward to playing that!

I also got Small World off my wife - havent played it yet, but been unpacking it and I wish every game spent as much attention on the storage of the pieces - really sensible packaging and even a section of the instructions devoted to making sure everything stays put while it's stored!! Very impressed withy the look and feel of this game so far

That's what struck me about small world too. Really good attention to detail which speeds the game up massively.

Has anyone experience of the 2 player version of 7 wonders? Is it any good?

No, but will soon. It advises in the rulebook to play a few times with 3+ before playing it with two, from a quick glance it seems to be that essentially the 3rd player is played by the other two, but didn't look too close so may be wrong there. I don't have 3 people immediately so may jump straight in with 2

Bought Last Night On Earth yesterday second-hand for Ł10 - wasn't on my radar but came up in a local FB group and looked like an absolute bargain at that price, so thought I'd pick it up. Apparently has a couple of the zombies missing, but I already own Zombies!!! so should be able to substitute.

Anyone played?

So, i've been looking at One Night Ultimate Warewolf (based on someone mentioning it on here), but see that there is a Daybreak variant. Does anyone know the difference? Is one better than the other?

Does anyone have any comparison with that and say, Coup or Skulls & Roses or Love Letter or even the original Ultimate Warewolf!? All seem to be secret identity games and I only need one (I have Love Letter, but think that's slightly different?)

Not sure about you first question, but in answer to the second:

ONUW is streets ahead of both Coup and S&R IMO. I own all three and that goes down way better than the other two. Don't get me wrong, they're both solid games but if I could only buy one it'd be ONUW (especially as the other two can be played fairly easily with a standard deck of cards).

To add something else to the mix, I'd say that both The Resistance and especially The Resistance:Avalon are both superior to ONUW. Way more opportunity to backstab and far more skill based. Go to 3:07:00 on this video to see them both played: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsD8Nvb66NA

Yep, I'm picking up Avalon soon for sure. Really like the look of it, and I've already bought the Kickstarter promo cards for it as they were cheap on BGG

It sounds like both those require minimum 5 players, and ideally 7/8? I can't think of a tone I've had that many people to play with.... Warewolf sounds fine with 4+ unless I'm misunderstanding something somewhere?

Daybreak is a "sequel" to ONUW. It can be played on its own or combined with the first game to increase the number of players who can play and the roles available.

I've got Daybreak but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. From looking through the roles, I'd say the first game would be better if you haven't played it before. The roles in Daybreak are more complicated and seem better suited to seasoned players.

I've played ONUW an absolute ton, IMHO it needs 5 players to make the game really good, and 6 or 7 is great.

I own those, Coup and Avalon and I think they're all different enough to warrant owning them all. Coup is possibly the weakest of the 3 (mainly because of the endgame) but it's not really the same sort of game as the others. Avalon is closer to ONUW, but plays for longer.

Thanks for that mate. I think on balance then IM going to stock worth ONUW on the list - I'm looking for games that are somewhat easier to pick up and I rarely get 6or7 except maybe with family and less complexity is definitely better for them!!

Just played a super quick game of Dobble with a salesman in WHSmith - seems like it has potential to be quite fun, esp with kids or beer

Great day of gaming today, got to play all my birthday games with 4 total players from my regular group:

7 Wonders:

Played this twice and there were calls to play this again. Fantastic game. Given the playtime of ~30mins there is a surprising depth here, yet really easy to pick up. Seems a lot more complicated than it is in the rulebook but everyone picked it up pretty quick. Definitely looking forward to playing this again!!

Small World:

Great fun this - how can you beat Pillaging Halflings and Flying Elves?! Great randomness in class which really shakes up the game, and the retiring your race mechanic really changes things up. Def one that will grow with repeat playing's, but simple ti pick up. Will be selling it to the family as a simplified and shorter Risk, without the randomness of dice rolls

Survive: Escape From Atlantis:

I now remember playing this as a young boy at a mates house and getting trounced. Today seemed like it might go much the same but an act of kindness meant I actually went on to win. This is classic gaming as my family will remember, and after a few beers it went down well. Quite brutal in parts but short enough not to scar anyone permanently. Great fun

Thanks to all who suggested the above too, really pleased to add these to the collection
