Now available to pre-order in the UK. Available October 23. £79.

Amazon Fire TV

£49 for the next five days if you're already a Prime member.

The lack of ANY notable UK TV catch-up service seems like a pretty big oversight though! Hopefully that will change quickly.

I'm quite the technophobe, but I took the plunge and bought myself a Chromecast 2 weeks ago. I like it for some things, not so much for others.

This sounds better than that.

Do you think it's worth buying a Kindle TV if you already have a PS3/PS4?

It's worth it for XBMC alone...

So, I have Apple TV, which does my iTunes streaming.

But it would be nice to have Netflix and Prime in one place.

Question, do we think this will play nicely with Unblock US and Netflix?

Can you explain? I thought it came with Plex? Or is that the same thing? So will I be able to hook up external drives to it via USB and play movies from it? Because at the moment I'm connecting 2 external drives to my wife's laptop and using Plex on the laptop and the Chromecast in the back of my amp to stream the movies over.

And the PS3 already streams Netflix and Amazon stuff just fine, hence me wanting to validate the necessity of one.

Plex won't play from the external drives, you'd still have to do it the same way you do now only using the Fire TV instead of the Chromecast.

XBMC will play with the drives hooked up to it.

XBMC is like Plex on steroids. You can customise it a lot more.

I believe you can change the DNS settings quite easy.

Edit: Ordered one, for £49 no brainer.

Not sure how you can procrastinate about this. Buy for £49, if it's not what you want sell it for at least a small profit. Can't lose.

Very tempted, mainly for having Netflix and Amazon Prime in one box....I could get rid of my WD TV live streamer.....though I'm not a prime customer currently.

Don't see any benefit over my WDTVLive, so I'll pass, despite the lower price.
Also, what's left if you stop Amazon Prime?

It's a hell of a lot more powerful, so it should do a similar thing, better, quicker and for less money. And if you don't like it, sell it for a profit.

It's the epitome of a no brainer.
