I've got a Fire TV on order and should get it Friday, so in simple terms what is the best way to set it up to stream from my NAS drives (can't install Plex on them, and want to replace my AC Ryan an Iomega Boxee media players as both are slow and keep freezing)? And can I get Blinkbox on it?

Cheers

I can't answer the above but, I LOVE PLEX!!!!!!!

I know it's childish but having cover art, backgrounds and the title music playing over my TV shows is awesome!

SPMC is also pretty sweet

There is a guide to the install linked a couple of pages back.

You can't use Plex if you don't have a machine capable of running Plex Server. You're much better installing SPMC, which doesn't need a server, and is directly compatible with more file formats anyway.

So SPMC will allow me to stream from the 3 NAS drives I have?

Yep. SPMC is effectively just a rebranded XBMC, and Boxee was a fork of the original XBMC.

If your boxee could stream from your NASs, then SPMC will have no trouble.

Got FireTV set up and managed to work out how to get SPMC on it,and tried a film and it played perfectly, but how do I get SPMC to either appear as an icon or run automatically without having to go into settings>manage apps to launch it? Also, in SPMC is there a quick way to list or show thumbnails of all films or TV shows from my 3 NAS drives without having to use file manager to find what I want?

Cheers

Just go to Anazon and download the SPMC app. It'll say it's not compatible but ignore that then sync on the fire tv. It'll appear on the "recents".

To get the thumbnails you need to add the library as upnp. Just browse for your NAS folders.

Cheers but how do I download it from the Amazon store? It doesn't show up on the FireTV and on the PC it wants me to download to an android device

Edit: its ok, it lets me send to the FireTV, when I tried before it was before I had a firetv registered.

Anyone know where I can get Blinkbox and BTSport apk's?

You need to set up your three drive as independent video sources in SPMC, and set their content type as 'Movie'.

Just choose 'add source' from the main Video settings, navigate to the root of the drive where your movies are and select 'OK'. It will then prompt you to set the source type (Movie/TV Shows/Music etc), and will start scraping your files.

Do this 3 times, once for each NAS.

If you haven't already look at using something like Ember Media Manager or Media Companion to store the xbmc-compliant XML/poster/fanart alongside your movie files. This makes the scraper process much faster, and much easier to correct mistakes during scraping.

Cheers, but when I add source, the only option I get is to name it, there's no type selection I've tried both upnp and Windows SMB, and in Video and Settings>file manager.

I've sideloaded SPMC (nice and fast, had got used to openelec on raspberry pi), I've bought the app on amazon and synced, but I'm not getting it come up in recent. Anyone having that trouble or have I missed a step somewhere?

I've got it on at £67 but may be getting shot at £65, think it's sold now though mate, just waiting for confirmation. Will let you know if the deal falls through.

I didn't get it to work either so I installed Llama as described here :

http://kodi.wiki/view/Amazon_Fire_TV

I then used the side load application to change the icon to Kodi (there is a button on the app to do this)
