I really want a soundbar and am still trying to work out how I can justify £600. The missus would love it until she found out the cost.

I know but she has checked the kit out with me a few times so I can't get away with saying it was only £50. A nice lottery win would help.

I think that expired at the end of December, 2014. Codes had to be used by 31st January though, so if you bought before then then it may be worth contacting customer support.

Cheap Play 5 available from Amazon Spain today, Under £280 delivered and warranty is an EU one for anyone that is looking.

This looks interesting. Looks like Sonos are looking at opening up their API to allow apps to access and control the software and are recruiting to develop it;
https://gigaom.com/2015/01/19/sonos-...rd-party-apps/
https://www.linkedin.com/jobs2/view/...cmpt%3Aprimary

Probably some way in the future if they're only just recruiting, but promising if they do. It'd make it much better if you could 'cast' to your Sonos speakers directly from the Spotify, Rdio, Deezer, Beats, etc apps. Hopefully mobile music players would be able to as well (I use Mediamonkey to manage my local music and the Android app for playback).

Urinates all over it, and the squeezebox. I was a heavy Squeeze user. Never looked back.

The API stuff will take some time, but a step in the right direction if robust enough.

I had two Touches and a Radio. I had so many problems with the Radio, often losing connection, refusing to see the wifi signal (even when sat next to the router). The Touches were fine, but Sonos is so much more complete and infinately more reliable.

Although you can already 'cast' from Google Music to Sonos on Android - is that more to do with how Android is set up to allow access across apps?

is there a massive difference soundwise between the 1,3 and 5?

Looks like the 1 doesn't produce stereo from a single speaker according to the amazon spec page

Huge difference in sound.

All models produce stereo sound as there's teo speakers in each enclosure.

Paired play1s sound better than a single 3, paired 3s better than a 5.

I know a few posters have already answered that a single Play 1 is stereo. But do you mean it produces stereo channels but the sound output is still mono, or is there truly stereo separation from a single speaker? Just looking at the cross-section photo on Amazon and it shows only one speaker.

Also do you think Sonos will release a newer versions of Play 1 soon? I'm quite bothered that it doesn't include Bluetooth output or the very least an AUX IN. Think I might just pick up a cheap BT speaker for now and then upgrade to Sonos when I'm ready to buy a set rather than just a single Play 1. And the API thing will take some time too.

It gives a stereo sound. A mono sound would only be one channel. You're just not going to get any stereo seperation from it or any other single speaker as all the sound comes from one place.

The thing with Sonos is that you can add more as you go along, and once you start you'll find new locations for them, and you can group speakers together (as stereo pairs or for playing multi-room - it's easy to group and ungroup as and when you want multi-room playback, and with the Playbar you can also then add other rooms speakers to your telly audio) so depending on whether or not you think you may expand your setup you may or may not regret spending on a bluetooth speaker first.

The Play 1 only came out last year and they don't release that much stuff, so I can't see them updating the 1, and I very much doubt they'll add bluetooth to any of their range (although I may be wrong). Wireless gives it a good range, whereas bluetooth has a poor range and isn't really suited to a multiroom set up.

They also have a Connect, but that's silly expensive for what it is and you still need to add speakers to that. There's an aux in on the 5 (not sure about the 3). It's a shame there's no aux in on the Play 1, but I gues that would have pushed the price up too much for an entry level speaker, and if they're hoping people buy quite a few of them (for surround sound, extra rooms, etc) they need to be a decent price point, and features like aux in on every surround would be an unneccessary luxury.
