Is that an app you're referring to? Which platform?

In the Kodi settings there is section for network connectivity.

Anyone know what is considered a good replacement for the Revo system now that the gfx card is no longer supported in the main build?

I'm currently using the Dell Inspiron 3050 which popped up on the bargain forum a month or so ago. Althoough low in memory, it's running fine and plays back full Blu-rips no problem. It's hard wired to network.
I'm using Openelec on a USB stick.

For kodi? Do you need the latest version? I've rarely noticed much difference with each update

Openelec is still on the previous version (Helix) as far as I know.

You don't have to upgrade straight away. But if you have more than one device which shares the same remote database, then you need to upgrade them a the same time as they usually spawn a new database version which wouldn't be visible to the non-upgraded machine. Isengard is available at the moment for Kodi, but it's not been released on Openelec yet.

Ah, ok. I had experimented with using a centralised DB in the past (with middling success) but we only have one TV here so I've not bothered for years. I think I'll be getting a Nvidia Shield TV, not sure when, but that looks the most capable future proof option for Kodi.

If you plan to keep you current box too for another room then it might be worth setting up the DB remotely, that's as long as you have something to run the DB on. Otherwise, just do the DB save/restore thing when you move.

There's an addon you can use for multiple installations of Kodi so it remembers what you've watched across all of them.

http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=220547

Not used it myself though.

I'm really struggling to update Openelec on my Revo. I've copied the .tar file into the update sub directory, but when I select reboot Openelec just boots Kodi. I'm on v3.2.4 I take it I should be using the legacy build? I've rebooted, powered off, everything and it just keeps on loading v3.2.4 I can't do a new install because I don't have a Windows PC to make the usb and having nearly thrown my MacBook out the window yesterday struggling with terminal for literally 2 hours to try and make the usb stick I can't face it again Help ! :0(

Thanks. My tech knowledge on this stuff is quite low so trying to switch to that not going to be easy.

Can't see any installation instructions on line - so just dumped their .tar file in update folder in Openelec and nothing happened again

What version are you going from, and what version to?

Do you have an ssh or telnet client, suck as PuTTY, so you can connect to the box?

I'm going from 3.2.4 to whatever the latest legacy build is available for download - 6 something.

I'm just connecting to the box using my MacBook by typing in the ip of the box in Finder

Ooh, Mac, not sure about what you do on them!

I think from memory that you can't just upgrade from version a to z, you have to go a, b, c etc. Bit of a pain, but have you tried going to the next version after the current one?

It's be easier to use a telnet client. Can you do that with a mac? You want to connect to the openelec machine and get a command prompt.

i am on v3 - i can't see the v4 file online anywhere.

they still have 5 but not 4.

tried 5 - that don't work either.

this is very irritating.

i can communicate with the revo via the network - what does telnetting do and why do i need to get a command prompt?

Someone tried similar here:
http://openelec.tv/forum/110-update-...neric-i386-4-0

But the earliest release I can find is 5, you could try that:
http://openelec.tv/get-openelec/cate...egacy-releases

If you telnet you can download straight into the update folder without having to transfer the file is all.
