Channel Five - Richard Desmond buys it!!

This should be a total disaster...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-10746025

Richard Desmond has bought Channel Five and apart from making some preposterous statements about wanting to snatch Corrie, Big Brother and Panaroma(!) for his new toy, how long will it be before it is degraded to 'Daily Star TV' dare we ask?

I've got a bad feeling about this... I quite like Five as it is now and this will just reduce it to the same level of crapness as ITV3 which may as well be called ITV-KatiePrice!!

I quite like ITV 3 as it shows a lot of old stuff, I think you will find it is ITV 2 which is like a version of Heat magazine with the **** that it broadcasts.

Great movie on ITV3 right now.

I don't think Desmond buying Five is a good thing either, but Five has been on a downward spiral since it gave up the baseball coverage.

I went off Five when they started shunting stuff off to Five USA. Bloody annoying, that was. Take things I want to see - including the last season of the Shield! - and put them somewhere I can't watch them. Bah.

Is it too late for him to bring back NFL Sunday Night Football?

Good luck to him - he's got the cash to make a popular commercial station that shows more than reality shows.

Oh, but he's taking Big Brother. Oh well.

I went off Five when they brought back the DOG. Have to admit though over the years they have broadcast some of my favourite shows 'Lexx', 'Cleopatra 2525' and not to forgetting my favourite, 'Xena'.

Isn't it Monday Night Football that ESPN have the rights to?

Edit: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/digitalt...-football.html

I think Saturday NFL rights are still up for grabs though

Sky air live games at 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. every Sunday night through the 2010 NFL season, as well as providing coverage of the Saturday and Thursday night games that take place during the final seven weeks of the season. From early January 2011, Sky will show all the live postseason action, followed by Super Bowl XLV live from Dallas on Sunday February 6th. Sky will also have coverage of the Pro Bowl, also from Miami, on Sunday January 31st. In addition to their coverage of live NFL fixtures, Sky will broadcast NFL Network programming, including NFL Total Access, the NFL Network's flagship news program which keeps fans up-to-date with all the latest news from around the league.

ESPN's live coverage of Monday Night Football games kicks off at the start of the regular-season. Before kick-off of every Monday Night game you can review all the action from the previous weekend on Monday Night Countdown.

Don't think you can snatch Corrie from ITV, I think they own it. Not really sure what difference it makes, to be honest C5 have shown lots of my favourite shows such as Prison Break, CSI, Every hates Chris, etc.

As long as they keep hold of their various US imports (the CSIs, NCIS, Justified, Californication etc), they can fill the rest of their schedules however they like.

Oops read it wrong, for some reason I thought I read Monday. This is why I shouldn't go on the net after the pub.

Agree with you there, used to love sitting down and watching Xena on a Saturday night at 8 and stumbling across Lexx that used to be in their 'downmarket' days when they also had late Friday night soft porn movies, as a teenager it was brill

Many a Friday night as a teenager I'd stay up late waiting for a few breasts. Often it was some tedious erotic thriller but they showed a Russ Meyer season and those confessions of a... films

I hope they bring back the Red Shoe Diaries

There was another series where they visit earth which was apparently terrible. I have two of the canadian dvds of that series but have them next to Donnie Darko the directors cut in my to watch list.
