Bad News for freeviewer's Virgin1 may go !

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010...skyb-five-sale

looks like Sky is buying Virgin TV channels and Virgin1 is being removed from freeview

If Sky gets their way no more Warehouse 13 etc

We will see next week if it happens and ofcom approves it.

Isn't just Virgin Media's TV stations that Sky will be buying? Not the actual cable business?

Why would Virgin sell them off? Surely it needs to have its own channel to avoid being held to ransom in the way Sky did before with Sky 1?

Not that I watch DS9 repeats so a loss of Virgin is moot for me.

There's Virgin channels on Freeview? I guess they didnt make my favourites list.

I'll wager offcom will approve or face Murdoch's wrath.

I think Virgin have 3 or 4 channels on Freeview - obviously Sky are up to something and are buying up bandwith and not the actual channels themselves so buying out one of their main competitors is a good start. So you can expect them to launch Premium Pay TV in their place sometime soon.

Reading the article Five is also up for sale. If Sky bought that would there be many channels left on Freeview that aren't owned by Sky?

Oh dear. Ofcom need to nip this in the bud. It'll only lead to free TV being worse off. Murdoch's aim is to make freeview look as crap as possible, that's how he makes money. I can't see that him tinkering with it will have any positive effect on anything.

edit: I've just finished reading that and there are bigger stories in there than the Virgin media channels..

A Channel 4/5 merger, that's pretty big! Channel 4 to buy VM's stake in UKTV channels such as Dave and Gold.. Or Sky gets the stake with those Channels! Also Endermol could buy Channel 5 if the merger fails. 5's worth went down from £500 million to £85 million in two years, that's nuts! You could win the lottery and buy that.

After a month of ads for Chuck, they better show all of it now on Freeview.

Well, they did it:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/10238515.stm

No word on what's going to happen to Virgin1 yet, other than it being 'rebranded'...

Yep seems crackers that sky are now holding all the cards. Without content VM is high and dry and if sky want to start upping their prices and withholding premium channels, VM are left with nothing.

Weren't Sky ordered to lower their "wholesale" prices before though?
