Old versions of Photoshop Elements/Photoshop - anyuse? Or suggest an alternative

Looking to brush up my skills processing photos, and looking to get a (legal) copy of photoshop or elements. There are copies of elements 6 on ebay for £25, which is the best I've found yet. Are there any cheap or free alternatives? All the guides I want to follow are based around photoshop.

Presumably nothing much changes from version to version, and these old versions would suit me well enough - I'm no David Bailey, and it's only for occasional use rather than everyday.

Try paint.net, its pretty good for free, but you might find it too basic.

Morgan have Photoshop Elements v8 for £32: http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/Sho...ProductID=6111

Here's a video with a very annoying voice talking about the new features:

Alternatively take a look at The Gimp which is free and has a good reputation as a very capable image manipulator: http://www.gimp.org/

That's VERY cheap! Naughty though as it is the OEM version which is not meant to be sold on its own.

Thanks - been looking at the GIMP tonight - have ordered a copy of Elements 7 from amazon for £21 including postage as well.

GIMP looks great, though it will take me ages to get to grips with it!

Nice one, that's a stonking good price. 7 is not much different to the latest version

Got a link to that price?

Here you go - it's on the "used" page.

Dispatched today, so should be here shortly. Will report back (though may have to collect it from sorting office, as anything bigger than a CD won't fit through my tiny letterbox).
