I think they pretty much confirmed the whole purgatory thing, they were all dead and just waiting for each other to be brought back together before "moving on" - it was Desmond who was their spirit guide. As others have said, everything that happened on the island still happened, what we were given as answers was completely seperate to that of the island. The island brought them all together in their lives, but the flash-afterlife had nothing to do with the island (at least thats how i saw it) - Desmond thought he'd go to the "afterlife" when removing the stone, but he didnt realise the only way for him to go there would be to die.

I didnt have a problem with that part, its kind of lazy writing, but the episode wasnt bad i suppose. The problem is that they've built up all these questions about the island for 6 seasons and then just thrown in this purgatory thing in what seems almost last minute as a way of not having to answer any questions about the island (which is what most people have been waiting for). We still know very little about what the island actually is other than a place all the Losties met and bonded so much that they wanted to be together again in heaven (but does the island have anything at all to do with the afterlife part, or would that have simply happened anyway but with a different purgatory for everyone?).

So, any confirmation yet of the spin-off, "Ben & Hurley Island Show"?

I think I've just about got my head around it now. In the first episode of this season Jack is on the plane and notices his neck is bleeding. Then he gets home and finds an appendix scar he doesn't remember ever having. That's actually quite tidy, that they start to come together then. I'm sure it fades in from white too.

My concern is when did they die, when Jughead failed to go off/went off? Did the island move and the events on the island of the 6th season actually happen?

Lost 2: The Hurley and Ben years? Sounds awful, doesn't it?

r.e. Ben not entering the church: I took it that Ben did become a good man but carried guilt with him, which was alleviated only by Hurley at the very end but Ben presumably wanted more time to be a better father (or father in purgatory) to Alex.

For a second, I also thought Jack might become a Smoke Monster but a force of good.

I really enjoyed the episode but like others there was too many questions left unanswered for me. I don't feel robbed like with BSG though.

Loved it overall but bit disapointed that we never got to see the Ajira plane land back in civilisation. Sawyer and Claire haven't been off the island since the show began so it seems a shame to not get to see that moment of them stepping off but then I do like the idea of just knowing they get away as well.

So they all go on and live their lives and Ben and Hurley stay on the island and do..... stuff. But what about Desmond?? He's stuck with Ben and Hurley with no foreseeable way off. So when he dies is it after a long life of living back on the island away from Penny?

I think I just feel let down because I had expected something cleverer for the ending.

The whole series has been full of things being said, shown, or suggested in one episode and then being referred to elsewhere, maybe three eps later, maybe three seasons later. A complexity like no other TV series before, people have set up whole websites and wikipedias and forums to discuss and disect every aspect of the show, like pictures changing on the wall, numbers appearing all over the shop. The way they managed to get actors like Keamy to reappear was a delight. So I had held out some hope that some of the cleverness shown across the series would also mean a really clever ending that explained it all. Full marks to all those that realised in the last 2-3 eps that there wasn't going to be that clever ending I wanted

It doesn't help that we had tremendous investment in characters like Widmore and Penny and then they were just tossed aside - Widmore just randomly binned last episode after all his mystery, and Penny got a whole 2 seconds of screen time in the finale. Of course that fits with this "afterlife reunion" explanation because I don't think Jack ever met her so she was never really important to him, but it TOTALLY SUCKS for us viewers because her and Desmond had some of the best and most memorable on-screen moments of the entire show. There are numerous other similar examples.

Worst of all though, no Paulo and Nikki back in the finale

A couple of things aren't working for me even with this dodgy "afterlife reunion" explanation. For instance what was the whole concert thing about (Jack missed it anyway) and if it was so good why did Hurley have to go shoot Charlie with a tranquiliser to get him there. What difference does Claire and Charlie grinning inanely at each other really make to Jack's afterlife, other than for him to be surrounded by a million loved up couples when he moved on.

What about the boat that they used to get to Hydra Island ? Also Rose/Bernard and any of Widmore's men that didn't get killed (or did Smokie kill them all) are still on the island

How about a Magnum PI type series with Sawyer, Miles, Frank and Richard ?

Er, it wasn't just Jack's afterlife - it was a shared experience of everyone there.

OK, still not really getting what the concert was about though, why didn't they all just group up at the church?

The widmore death still grates - no reason given, however unlikely, whatsoever for him randomly leaving safety to go and get killed.

Lost loves its coincidences and/or symmetry. Anyone else notice that six people got off the island on the plane?
