You could try phoning them and say you're thinking of cancelling because..... and then see what they offer.

They have been offering people with these Thompson boxes an 1TB one for £149, perhaps they will with you.

I've just upgraded my multiroom box to SkyHD - not that i have an HD tv in my bedroom, but i wanted the extra storage and after doing a favour to move a friend in need when she was getting a new Sky install she would get a new box, so gave me the old one.

It turns out that it's one with component out on it. I was under the impression at one point that these are fairly sought after? Is that still the case? I'm skint, and if i ever did have HD it would be over HDMI so am tempted to sell this one and go back to my Sky+ box till i want HD. I might even upgrade the HDD in the + box to give me more storage.

Although i do like the newer EPG. Hmmm

I flogged mine for £40 last year...

I also had the 500gb one, before getting the 1gig one.

The 1 gig one is a lot faster than any other sky box I've had. Really flies.

But I had the new epg on the original component Thomson box...although it was a bit slow.

Still think their numbering is a bit of a mess, for example ITV3+1 is higher up than ITV 3. What is going to be on 117 outside of Wales or is it going to be as it is now

Its a total mess, this is what it should look like just before a re-jig. No less than 18 +1 channels separated from their main channel, my idea would fix this! If only I could find the contact details for the design team.

They can't put anything in 117 unless its not for broadcast in Wales.

The thought of being able to watch Liverpool v Chelsea in HD just had me calling Sky to get Sports in a moment of weakness.

They wouldn't offer me any deals to resubscribe so I've given it a miss. Seems hit and miss as my brother phoned up a few weeks ago and got 3 months at half-price.

Does it depend on which call centre you get through to?

Possibly. I couldn't understand a word the guy was saying so it was either India or Scotland.

I'm after an older Sky+ box for downstairs use and was wondering the best way to go about it.

It doesn't need to be HD so no point forking £180 out for a new HD box. Which is the best box to get? Looking for 80GB or more. Will it support the new EPG/firmware etc?

Gonna need an extra cable running into the house from the dish to the new box too? How much would Sky charge for that?

Oh and with the multiroom option from Sky do you get any discount on the HD pack? Though I read that somewhere when I got mine last May.

Hmmm. Just read that Sky will supply you a new Sky+ box for £49 if you take Multiroom.

Only issue then is you need a phone line connected to both boxes. My setup was without one. Can the Sky engineers run external phone cable to the existing HD box?

No you have to pay two £10.25 HD fees plus a £10.25 multiroom charge, these are per month.

The Official Sky HD Thread and FAQ

That's ok I don't want HD on the second box. I just thought I'd read that the HD fee got waived if you took up something else. Thought it might have been multiroom.

If you want the enhanced EPG you'll need the HD box though. Sky only supply HD boxes now. With the half price HD for a year deals going on it maybe better to go with HD on the box and get the box cheaper. You may find yourself paying the same over a year and getting HD as well.

As for the phone cable, if its more than 5 meters from the box to the phone socket you'll have to buy your own cable. You should find a 20 meter one for £5-10 most places. You'd better get it before they install it though as they have to test the connection during the install IIRC.

I remember when the cable connecting mine failed. The letters we got from Sky telling us so and threatening to charge us this and that because we weren't connected tells me you'd better do so.
