Apparitions - 9pm -BBC1 -13/11/08

This looks interesting. Martin Shaw becomes an exorcist in an apparently full-on horror series this coming Thursday. I don't think there's been a thread on this - so here is one.

Apparitions - new BBC comedy!

Omigod how brilliantly terrible is this latest Joe Aherne load of old pony! The best laugh the BBC has produced in ages!

Wonderfully dodgy dialogue - check
Sub-soap "acting" - check
Facial hair = gravitas - check
Facial hair = the devil - check
Gay Priests who sin and pay for it dearly - check
Using real people in really inappropriate ways to forward a plot - check
Multiple ethnicity amongst characters all neatly contained in one priest's office - check

Apparitions

Just finished watching this on BBC1 and thought it was well - quite good ..... even though apparantly there were'nt any dvd's available for the critic's to watch. This usually bodes badly for series but hey ... thought Martin Shaw played a good priest and shall look forward to the next episode next week...

I enjoyed it as well, ok it wasn't perfect and you could pick holes in it but very enjoyable if you like this sort of thing. Which I do.

It's almost as if Joe Aherne thought "what is simultaneously the most politically correct thing I can do with this whilst at the same time being as controversial as possible?"
I can't wait for an episode where our Catholic Priesty and a Muslim Cleric team up to save Jesus who has been reborn on Earth as a French exchange student called Mo de Prophet!

So overall, Apparitions, crap but very entertaining!

Is episode 1 repeated somewhere? Having started this thread, I completely neglected to set Sky +, and missed it.

Just got round to watching the second ep of this and it really was quite disturbing (in a good way). Martin Shaw could do with Bodie and Cowley for backup though as facing these demons seems to be quite a challenge

Same here. I thought overall it was really good. Martin Shaw played the part of Father Jacob superbly. Any news of another series?

An article in the Radio Times said it was 50/50 for it to get a new series as ratings weren't great. I'd certainly be up for some more as I found some of it genuinely creepy.
