I have a feeling that most people vote in the final few weeks. All the egnogg votes would've been little girlies and the Irish.

lol, she's just been on ITV lunch time news being told her single is the fastest downloaded single ever, she really is not very bright, she had to be told about three times and given a moment to herself to figure out what the newsreader woman was saying.

unless it's just more fake humility/gratitude, an act that will very quickly wear thin.

did the leaked contract state how much she'd earn from each download ? Not a lot I guess, then there'll be the deductions for the advance...The poor girl will still be in debt for a while yet

The "£1m deal" (inc £150K advance IIRC) will need to be paid back from her pittance of a royalty rate

Yes. The biggest 'fake' ITV ever pulled. There are no winners on the X Factor, only Simon Cowell. All the 'stars' are put on a salary or something equivalent and any money over goes to Cowell and co.

I pray for the day that we have more Leon winners and less Leona. Then Cowell might call it a day.

Is that for real ? Although I'd assume they're on a crap rate, surely if they DO sell lots of albums they'd get something worthwhile out of it. Leona must be worth a few quid & she's still only on her first album. Leon however...

From memory I'm fairly certain it was 15%. Which sounds quite a small amount, but she actually doesn't need to sell that many records at that to pay the whole £1m let alone the £150,000 advance if you do the maths on that.

Rubbish. The price is quite clear. A £1,000,000 recording contract not a million cash. The money is used to provide you digs, set up recording opportunities to get you an album out. When that album sells you make a **** load of cash, like Leona has.

Exactly, Wikipedia says Leona Lewis has sold over 5 million copies of her album Spirit, it's £9 on Amazon.co.uk and more elsewhere, so 5m x £9 x 15% nets her a nice £6.75million, not including all the individual single sales.

If it is 15% that they get (and I'm fairly certain it is) the winner only needs to sell 111,000 copies of their album to repay the £150,000 advance. If you factor in the single sales as well then they need sell correspondingly fewer albums. Even Steve Brookstein managed to sell 250,000 of his first album.

So yes it is true to say that the real winners of X-factor are Syco etc but I don't think it's fair to call the prize a fake.

cant see it bring 15% of each sale. I would imagine it would more likely be 15% of whatever the record co makes.

Ok well halve it to allow for VAT and the end seller's markup ... still leaves Leona a multi-millionaire on one album alone.

The finalists get a ton of money from the X-Factor tour as well. Admittedly not as much as the organisers of the whole thing but certainly an amount to make it worth getting out of bed.

I'd be surprised if it was that high too. that was always classed as a good deal, even years ago

There's a lot of factors. Most artists these days get paid a working wage - I mentioned previously in the thread that I have a friend who was in Son of Dork. And he actually got less than the minimum wage. The band was given around £20,000 between them when they started to buy clothes and new gear but that was the only money they ever saw, as far as I know. But their apartment (next door to Girls Aloud!) was all paid for by the label, bills and all.

Anyways, back to the factors part. Artists (or writers) make money from loyalties. The X-factor winners, although they may claim otherwise will never write their own songs...perhaps one on their album which they'll basically sit down next to a real writer and 'agree on' would be claimed as their own. But it isn't. They DEFINITELY don't get 15% of the sales

I'll only start getting respect for this show once they start letting real musicians (bands) trial. All these cookie cut performers make me nauseous.
