Quarentine ? Looks like they have remade almost shot for shot.....one only wonders why and then I remember....it's for the benefit of those who are too lazy to read subtitles

Also, Jennifer Carpenter? I can barely stand her when she gets a 5 minute scene in Dexter, there's no way I'll be able to watch her running around screaming for 90 mins.
After seeing Harry Hill a couple of weeks back I can only say, they should've cast Dean Gaffney! Now watching him run around screaming for 90 mins would've been essential viewing

Just seen the trailer for the American remake and it looks awful. It looks as though some amateurs decided to film their own remake of Rec, not a professional film studio

Also the other annoying thing is that somehow it's gonna be all neatly tied up whereas I love the ambiguity of Rec. Although I do wonder how

Everything tied up?

I cant think of any american zombie film that gave a proper explanation for the events happening. Night... make a passing reference to a possible explanation but nothing more was made of it.

Just remembered Return Of The Lving Dead

Maybe tied up was the wrong phrase, but I'd be surprised if they ended it where Rec ends which is a quality ending.

We shall see, maybe we're just all being a bit too harsh on it...

Whilst I loved everything that happened.. I was hoping for a little something more from the very end. We all knew what would happen,
and the final room build up was immense.. so much detail and a great set, but then it just seemed like they wanted to wrap everything up as quickly as possible.
and the final shot is great.. I'm not sure what I wanted, I just felt it could've done with another minute or two
. On rewatch, I'm sure this will go away however. It was pretty much my only criticism and it's not something I let bother me.

No, no a million times no. Even if they came out with a better film (extremely unlikely), it's disrespectful and patronising. Due to the remake, there's no distribution for Rec in the US now, and that would've done several things.. 1. brought money to the people who invested and made the original, 2. possibly brought more people into enjoying foreign cinema.. it's a very basic movie on the dialog front and not something you need to read much of and 3. avoid the inevitability that if Quarantine does well, there'll be even more remakes hitting the theaters whilst the original is still being released worldwide.

American audiences most likely won't have heard of [rec], they'll throw their praises on an American production that has no originality and will make the studios even more money based on other peoples talent. If sticking Quentin Tarantino's name on a film in a fake production credit means a film will see the light of day in the States, then so be it.. I'd rather people see the beauty of Il Mare than think The Lakehouse is a wonderful film, original film.

The US *does* have some awesome writers, and original filmmaking is being pushed aside for cheap shlocky rewrites by hacks (undoubtedly working through the strike). Remakes are killing the industry, and I have no interest in giving them any of my money at all.

The Directors have said that they are considering a sequal... but they're not sure as they don't think they can improve on the first....

Although how they'd approach a sequal I don't know.

Excellent film, really enjoyed it. In all honesty it really surprised as I don't usually go for these 'camera' style films. I hated Blair Witch and Cloverfield is probably one of the worst films I've seen this year, however this was great especially in the last 10 - 15mins. Looks like the hollywood remake is going to be near enough a shot for shot remake but do yourself a favour, watch this one.

Watched this on Saturday and thought it was excellent.

Really intense with relentless shocks and scares.

How incredibly disappointing.

I can only presume that the credibilty that this film is receiving on here is purely because it's in a foreign language. And that, because of the subtitles, it somehow seems to a little eerier and makes it easier for you to ignore the amateur dramatics in the acting?

Well, that's the only reason I can think of as to why so much praise is being heaped on such an unoriginal, dull, irrelevant short-film.

And, to me, it shouldn't even be classed as a 'movie'. I've seen longer, and scarier, episodes of The X-Files.

Arguably the eeriest scene of the entire film, which is agreed upon by many people here, is the final 5-10 minutes which is mainly dialogue (and therefore subtitle) free and it's eerie because of the excellent location and style in which they shot it. Also, in my opinion so other people might think entirely differently, the acting is not meant to be perfect as it's meant to be real people put in this situation and the fact that most of them over-act adds to the realism of the whole movie.

Well I pretty much guarantee that if this was originally an English language film with the leading lady (Davinia McCall/Anneka Rice? ) simply screaming "******* hell", "******* son of a bitch" & "keep the ******* tape rolling" then it wouldn't be receiving even the slightest amount of plaudits it seems to be getting. Which is kinda proven by the premature criticisms of the remake.

And it's not without it's plot-holes either

This is obviously making it up from what I assumed from the film:

Granted it is a lot of assumptions but I like the films that don't spell it all out on a plate and leave it ambiguous. In essence, you have to suspend your disbelief every time you go into a horror movie anyway
