From GRRM's clues, it's strongly believed that The Hound will be played by Rory McCann, which is another great choice if true.

Yikes! ... I misread the above & thought you'd said Rory McGrath!

Lena Headey is a great choice.

True, but he's currently tied up as the lead in Sons of Anarchy, so probably couldn't get him even if they wanted.

After tracking down a pic and ealising who he is (Yarp!)....quite good choice, but....

I don't know - he just seems like a giant and can't imagine he could bring the more intricate detail to the role - I mean, the Hound is a very complex, conflicted character. Also, I always imagined the hound was more brawn than size - otherwise how big is 'The Mountain That Walks...'??

Just about to finish reading the first book, for something that started out so dry and dull I am glad I gave it a second chance as about halfway in it gets really good. And agree Momoa would make a Drogo.

When is this supposed to air?

They're filming the pilot now (or about to start filming), and as its HBO they'll shoot the whole of the first season before broadcasting it.

Must dig out the first book and reread it

I remember hearing somewhere once that Martin wrote the character with Ron Perlman in mind, having become friends when working on Beauty & The Beast. He was always who I imagined in the role as I read the books.

Saying that, I could never shake the mental image of The Rock in The Scorpion King as Khal Drogo!

Am starting the books soon.

Wife has already read them all and she really enjoyed them.

The full cast list has now been announced (can see a list with pics here, though it's in the process of being updated: http://winter-is-coming.blogspot.com...st-so-far.html ). I have to say, pretty much every actor is spookily close to how I always imagined the characters look. The only one which I think is way off is Alfie Allen as Theon. Really weird choice, IMO.

Excellent info, thanks for that - 90% spot on IMHO.

Out of curiosity, anyone know who's going to play...oh what's his name...the sneaky one that's playing everyone off against each other - in an ideal world it should be Kevin Spacey....??

Littlefinger. He doesn't appear until quite a way into the book, so won't be in the pilot. I always imagined Kevin Spacey in the role too!

I've never known a TV show to undergo this much interest and fan following. Websites are literally giving day-to-day spy reports on what scenes are being filmed, where the crew is moving to and the actor's travel plans, down to news about what the mood is like on the set (very exciting, apparantly).

I'd guess it's helped in part by the total lack of information about Book 5...

Personally I don't really know why people are getting so worked up when it seems like anything 'period' from HBO has no chance of running as long as this will need to.

Could someone in the Belfast area pop along & give him a slap & tell him to get on with the latest book in the series please?

Have you seen the state of him, a slap could very well give him a coronary, then he'd have to take time out from going to conventions and signings and watching football writing the book.
