Louis Theroux - Weird Weekends

Nice to see this is getting a second 'best of' release.

http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/index.cgi?page=News&id=3848

I really enjoyed the first one, and this set includes the fabulous 'Wrestling' episode, which I will be buying the set for alone.

It also includes his 'Louis Meets the Hamiltons' which was ok, but provided one hilarious moment when:

EDIT - OMG!! It's out this Monday. That was the first I'd heard of it.

All the episodes would be a great idea!

At the moment, the only way to see any "Weird Weekends" is on the UK Horizons channel - they're on about once a week, at various times.

Particular episodes to watch out for are "Audition" (about Louis trying to make it as a Broadway star!) and the episode about TV infomercials (Louis presents a show on the American Home Shopping Network and meets random crazies).

Top show, but really needs more output on DVD.

I agree, they need to release them all on DVD. Especially since I haven't seen all of them.
Can anyone find an episode guide? I've tried and failed.

Have you seen the news item today that he has had to give up because he can't get any new guests? It's on the BBC site here. Unsurprising really. It was only a matter of time before people caught on and avoided him, or took advantage knowing the kind of coverage they would get.

New (er... re-released) Louis Theroux Weird Weekends DVDs

Actually they aren't new . They seem to be the same individual discs from the old "Best of Weird Weekends" releases, now sold as 4 single-disc volumes, for Ł5.99 each. Released on the 16th.

Vol 1: Porn, Survivalists.
Vol 2: Wrestling, Hypnosis, When Louis met The Hamiltons
Vol 3: Swingers, South Africa
Vol 4: Gangsta Rap, UFOs, When Louis met Jimmy Saville.

Kind of a shame they are not new episodes to DVD. It made me go and search for a list of all the episodes, to jog my memory. Anyone else remember how great this how was? I just got his book too. I recall that most episodes of Weird Weekends were great, then his c-list celebrity programmes were a bit of a disappointment, then he returned in 2003 with some longer episodes that were back to the quality and stle of Weekends. Here's the list:

Weird Weekends (not in order) :
UFOs
Christianity
Porn
Survivalists
Demolition Derby
Swingers
Wrestling
Infomercials
Gangsta Rap
India - Enlightenment
Hypnosis/Self-Help
South Africa
Body-Building
Black Nationalism
Looking For Love/Thai Brides
Off-Off Broadway

When Louis Met...:
Jimmy
Paul & Debbie
The Hamiltons
Ann Widdicombe
Chris Eubank
Keith Harris & Orville

Specials:
Louis and the Brothel
Louis, Martin & Michael (Michael Jackson)
Louis and the Nazis.

Damn the thread title getting my hopes up!

For those Louis fans that may not know, he has a book out where he revisits some of the people he met during his programme. I got it for Christmas and haven't had a chance to read much yet, but what I have read has been excellent.

Damn this thread title - I got all excited. Why do people have to title a thread "New xxxxxxx released" and then start the thread with "actually, they aren't"

The series was one of the best things on TV at the time, and I have both box sets they are superb.

However, I have read the book and it is very disappointing

Don't forget the Christmas special, which was also excellent.

They used to be repeatead loads on the various UK channels, sadly not so often anymore.

I've just started the book - in what way is it disappointing?

The Christmas special was excellent - but, to my knowledge, it's never been repeated!

The book is pretty good, although I'd hoped he would have gone back to see some of the other folk - like that camp bloke from the broadway one, the swingers, the independent wrestling guys or that weird hypnosis bloke who dupes women.
