That seems a little unfair, there are a whole load of complaints you could make about Sky, but they generally treat their import shows very well, usually broadcast very soon after the American airdate, in HD, generally at a sensible time of night, uncut and at a fixed time each week. It's about the only area where they beat the BBC, who are usually appalling when it comes to showing American stuff. They do have the occaisional annoying onscreen thing, though even the BBC seem to be going down that road more and more.

TV Content is hardly a public service. Content makers make content to make money.

Something like this has always been on the cards since the economic downturn, and is the consequence of allowing one of the biggest broadcast platform to be one of the content providers - any decision they make will always favour their own platform.

Virgin had Spartacus in HD on catchup but not as live broadcast as there was no Bravo HD. Now if it goes to Sky1 that will not be on catchup as none of Sky content is and don't even have Sky1HD available on Virgin at the moment but believe we should have it by the end of the year.

It was decided that Channel One, which was rebranded from Virgin 1 in August following BSkyB's acquisition of Living TV Group for £160m in July, was too similar to Sky3, which it sits alongside as a free-to-air channel on Freeview.
Virgin 1 was too similar to Sky3? In what way? I can't remember the last time Sky3 showed ANYTHING worth watching! Gits.

Or dont and rent the box sets, no inane brain-dead voice over announcer, no telling me that the latest witless "sky special" is starting in 3 days time or that I'm watching sky and the next program is on next... after this announcement telling me that the next program is on next and the ads for the next programme...

I'd rather wait - ooh - 3 months and watch in one block from DVD to be honest.

Each to their own though, one friend of mine is paying Sky over £100 a month for his set up. When I asked why he said he didnt want to miss the latest programmes, which he has on his sky HD box(es) because he hasnt had time to watch them. Almost all of which I'm working my way through on boxsets from lovefilm and ebay and two of which (Doctor Who and the Deep - yes, I know, don't go there) - were on the BBC in HD anyway.

But that £100 will include, telephone line rental, broadband subscription, HD movies and HD sport.

Plus it is not a three month wait some shows for some moronic reason come out a few weeks before the next season starts in the US, Spartacus Blu ray is not coming out here till next May.

Trying to justify giving £100 a month to Sky is hard but you make a good effort ....

Until Sky start actually investing money by making decent shows featuring UK talent/productions and targetted at UK audiences I will never give them a penny as what they are now is purely a reseller for the US.

But that's the very reason I subscribe to cable I don't want to watch the drab home made productions.

I don't need to justify anything to anyone about what I spend but the fact is that not all of that money is for TV so if you look at the TV sub it is closer to £50 if you include sports, movies and HD.

Sky know their flagship channel (Sky One)is a bit of joke now and looks like they are trying to bring back to where it belongs. They will no doubt cherrypick stuff like Spartacus.
I've seen trailer for the new Hawaii 5-0 starting on Bravo so I guess they will grab that as well.

Exactly, we get enough of that on BBC/ITV/C4 etc...
