Question Could anyone recommend decent Spanish and French films

Welcome

Looking for Spanish and French films but they their certification can't be greater than 12. Because I had Pan Labyrinth and Amelia in mind but they are both Certification 15 . Any ideas, preferably ones available on either Sky,Prime or Netflix.

Thinking of you

Mas

Have you seen either of those films before? Pan's is a hard 15, bloody, violent, scary, Amelie is (bearing in mind I've not seen it in a while) a very soft 15 that is almost purely based on sexual references.

Depending on the intended audience (presumably a 12yr old) then Amelie might be absolutely fine.

A 12 cert really does exclude most of what springs to mind.

French:

Persepolis
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

Spanish:

The Invisible Guest (Netflix)
The Orphanage (15 but I revisited it again recently and it's the tamest 15 ever, and it's more fairytale than horror).

French:

Betty Blue
Breathless
The Big Blue
La Haine
La Femme Nikita
Swimming Pool
La Vie En Rose
Delicatessen
Irréversible
Taxi (good fun)
District 13

Spanish:
The Skin i live in
Bad Education
A Fistful of Dollars (technically.. )
Amores perros
The Others
Land and Freedom (Ken Loach... don't know if it counts?.. either way it's very good)

edit: ..

sorry... didn't read 'can't' be over a 12.. lol. Definitely do NOT get irreversible under any circumstances.

The others
Land and Freedom
Taxi
The Big Blue has a some boobs in and one sex scene but that might be alright otherwise?? Might want to review or skip that scene. Beautiful/weird film that one.
MicMacs (2009), might be ok, but it's been a while since I saw it.

from memory, City of Lost Children isn't bad for a 15, more dark fairytale 'horror', but it's a great film

I agree with the suggestions so far, and also that Amelie should be fine (from memory, there's a flash of boob and a flash of noisy rumpy). I've actually watched it 3 times at the cinema over the years, with 3 different people.

Not yet mentioned ...

Les triplettes de Belleville (2003) is great !

Amelie and diving belle and butterfly both great films, also add the Intouchables.

i must be old as the first film I thought of was Pardon Mon Affair, which is the film that was remade as the lady in the red back in the 80s, but a good comedy though as always better than the remake.

I second Intouchables. That's another 15 cert though. I seem to remember it's mainly bad language.

Volver [ES]

It's a 15 but you could easily distract the rest of the audience during those brief scenes and nobody would be any the wiser.

All About My Mother is my fave Almodovar film. Can't remember what rating it was though.

My favourite Spanish film is Intacto. I was stunned by it back in the day. But try to watch it without prior knowledge of it.

Er distract from the whole father daughter storyline ?
As to intacto that features people blowing their brains out.
The orphanage has that creepy as hell child with the sack over its head.

Kirikou and the sorceress
The Asterix live action films
War of the buttons

If you look up Spanish childrens films Wikipedia has a list of about 6 and other sites tend to list English films with Spanish stories
