I remember when the Feig movie came out and all the critics raved about it and pretty much everybody who posted in the film's thread on here raved about it... then I watched it and couldn't for the life of me figure out how the critics could be so unanimously fond of it. To this day I'm not sure if there was a single negative review from a mainstream critic? At least the attitude towards the film has changed on here!

Well maybe not raving but the overwhelming majority of the responses from critics and definitely on here when the film first came out was positive. That is indisputable. Read from post #598 if you don't believe me. Only a handful of posters said it was mediocre (myself included) and one poster said it was awful, everyone else enjoyed it.

And I think Ghostbusters II is great as well.

Ghostbusters Demasculated, was in every way possible a terrible movie, using the comedy greats of our time (Saturday night live is not the great repository of comedy geniuses it once was).

Lazy writing and ideas abound in this; why make their secretary a dumb man, Janine Melnitz wasn't dumb, the running gag with the take out meal, the fart gags, the dancing sequence, poor villain and so on

I don't like her in anything I've seen her in but Melissa Mcarthy was the closest they got to a female Dan Ackroyd but the rest did not fit. No Venkman, type and the Female Egon was way off. We didn't even get a reasonable Winston who in most respects is the person us commoner non scientists are supposed to identify with.

The new version is going to be about 4 young kids. 2 boys. 2 girls. The director confirmed the leaked rummor yesterday.

I see one of the cast from the last one has had a twitter meltdown about this.

Not quite sure she understands it was a truly terrible film that flopped hugely.

I'm surprised more people aren't upset that all (indeed any) these reboots and remakes are destroying our middle ages.

The latest reboot was dreadful.

Ghostbusters 2 was dreadful.

The real Ghostbusters was a rubbish cartoon with a stupid name.

The original Ghostbusters movie isn't that good and for a comedy it isn't funny.

Yeah. I went there.

Real Ghostbusters was Ace, the later reboot of this was rubbish, but in fairness I never actually watched it so I don't know that, I just think things from my own childhood were great and other things from not my childhood were less good.

The reboot or remake, whatever we call them now, was Ok but not great. In reality it didn't need making and neither does this.

The meltdown from the ghostbuster 2016 star is quite funny, why should the studio make another box office disaster but its easier to claim sexism.

The 2016 was awful, it was mostly disliked on here although a quick look at that thread it was only 6 users that loved it (One of them is a internet fedorda wearing whiteknight defending "M'ladies" across the internet)

I think the problem was Ghostbusters II was disappointing compared to the 1st film that is classic film (unless you a try hard edgelord with a Tapatalk signature) Ghostbusters II is oscar winning film compared to the 2016 dumpster fire film

Until November after its release, the count in that thread was 11 thumbs up responses, 5 "merely oK", and 5 hated it. November was when that thread caught up with the rest of the internet when it comes to fan reaction to the film!

As for critics, it was so almost unanimously positive in the early days after release that I just couldn't understand how fan and reviewer reaction could be so contrasting. It was really only YouTube bloggers that were absolutely slamming it. I remember its Rotten Tomato score was in the high 90s for weeks, but these days it's around 75%. More reasonable but still far too high imo.

Watched Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II over the weekend with my 6 year old.
We loved them both.

2 was very good, much better than I was expecting (I do remember loving it the first time around though).
Acting and editing were great in both of them. They flew by. Really funny and still hold up.

The soundtracks are great for both and really help towards the sillyness of the movies.
Only a few dated effects that pull you out of the movies (mainly Gozer's dogs when running). The ghosts all look good still.

Still not seen the new movie... But may watch it next weekend.

I love how Leslie Jones is saying:

"So insulting. Like **** us. We dint count. It’s like something trump would do. (Trump voice)”Gonna redo ghostbusteeeeers, better with men, will be huge. Those women ain’t ghostbusteeeeers” ugh so annoying. Such a dick move. And I don’t give **** I’m saying something!!"

Surely you can say the exact same thing about the latest movie, just replace Trump with Fiege and Women with Men.

If their movie was in the same universe as the originals it would have been different. They could easily have been a female franchise in a different part of the city. Or younger relatives of the original Ghostbusters.

I don't hugely think a reboot was ever going to work. I thought the film was pretty good, I enjoyed it at the cinema and have watched it again, it passes the time. Was it the greatest movie ever made? No, was the original? No.

Now it wasn't as good as the original, but it was alright. But things can't seem to be alright or pretty good anymore, you can't seem to watch a movie and enjoy it. You've got to either hate it or spend your life justifying why you enjoyed such a movie.

The reason it bombed, is because it never really found an audience. Pointless reboot, they decided to aim an action film at women, sticking Chris Hemsworth in it as eye candy, etc.

But it was alright to pretty good.

Frankly this next one will bomb also.

We didn't need a Ghostbusters: The Next Generation three years ago, we don't need it now.

But I'm sure Dan Ackroyd will show up, make some money.

They're doing this in a desperate bid to "save the franchise" that never really existed in the first place.
