I've found KDP to be pretty good. Not really any tips other than the obvious ones: 1. Write the best novel that you can and 2. Make sure you read your work plenty of times to polish the manuscript, get rid of any errors.

Well, just under four years on the project and I'm proud to announce the release of the final book in my YA mystery trilogy:-

Thanks very much, Kanedaa. I'm still small time. I mean really small time, but there are a few people out there who like my books. To hear that somebody is looking forward to my new book is really nice, so thanks for the feedback.

Monkey Arkwright had a blog tour last week and I got some excellent reviews from that and a few of the reviewers expressed an interest in reading the next book.

I just did a report on the blog tour here:-

Preordered, any reason why the 3rd doesn't link to the first 2?

Thanks sleep4ever. No, it's not too soon to ask. In the immediate future, I'll put a bit of effort into trying to convince the world that I've got the next Harry Potter/His Dark Materials/Lemony Snicket just waiting to be read.
Once you start writing, it's hard to stop! I've got a couple of ideas bubbling around my head - the one that appeals to me most will be a psychological/police thriller .... but because it's me, there will be a twist to it. My wife says "Why don't you write a detective story about somebody with a name like DI Frank Ferguson?" But I don't want to do something that's been done to death.

Thanks for the pre-order.

The answer is because Amazon is a bloody pain sometimes. I've done everything that they asked when filling in the details - is it part of a series? yes, what's it called, what number is it etc.? and yet they don't link it.
I sent them a message but nothing's happened yet. I'm sure that it will get linked eventually.

Can I just say in general that I'm really pleased with the support that I've got from people on here. It makes a difference to know that a handful of people are reading my books and that all the work is not in vain. Yes, it is fun to write, but if you thought that NOBODY was reading it, it would be pretty depressing. Between forum people (Digital Fix and GoodReads), a few work colleagues, a few reviewers and a few random readers, I at least have a tiny audience.

PS: Meant to say, although it's not strictly necessary to have read it, part of the plot in Mr Gooch has some relevance to events in the 3rd book, so you're well set.

It is so far, 22% read. I'm trying to ration it to a few chapters a night! But I had to admit I read a few extra last night as it was at an exciting bit.

Finished the book, I took my time. Really loved it, but the very end freaked me out a fair bit.

You done with the series now?

I'll post a review when I'm not rushing for work.

Thanks glad you enjoyed it. I suppose somebody being freaked out at the end is one of a number of reactions that an author can count on as a positive for a series with a supernatural theme.

Yes, I think I'm done. There's no doubt that there are a ton of options for side stories or even continuing to follow the lives of the main characters, but I always said it was a trilogy. Still, never say never.

Thanks for your support in reading and helping spread the word whilst I've been writing them - I appreciate it.

Whilst I've had some very positive comments, the sales have been woeful (which I suppose is to be expected for most indie authors). However, I definitely feel like it's been a positive experience that I've enjoyed and I may be writing some more. Bizarrely, with all the time stuck at home, I just don't feel like writing at the moment.

Yeh I found under lockdown I just had no enthusiasm for anything. Got bored easily and could just about manage to watch films I'd seen before.

It's a shame the sales are bad, but I don't think my wife's ever set the world on fire.

Did you consider sending it to a real publisher?
