And result. Always felt vulnerable at 0-1 having spurned so many chances but ultimately very comfortable and sets us up very well for the year ahead.

Was a bit nervy when it was still 1-0 but overall total control from us for the whole game

So any debate about VAR favouring Liverpool is now null and void

Mahrez got stepped on accidentally but he literally jumped up in the air and onto the floor.

Which is never a penalty. Let alone a clear and obvious mistake.

And that’s before we get to the retake where the City player was first into the box

I thought the penalty was retaken because the keeper was off his line ( which technically means he should have been booked as well - but wasn't )

It was retaken for Coady's encroachment as he cleared the ball. His foot was on the line, and his head was just over. Which is still very harsh IMO.

Superb win for us. Done the double over them too.

It really is your year!

And there are not many teams can say that recently ... just Chelsea in fact and that was many, many years ago

That wasn't the case, he was clearly encroaching.

Don't forget that that is why the D is on the edge of the area - you must be 10 yards away from the ball when a penalty is taken which is why there is a D. He was not only in the D but actually nearly out of the D.

It is surprising that even professional players don't know that.

There was a City player encroaching further. I don’t see how that is ok?

Because he didn't interfere with the end result. If he had touched the ball it would have been retaken (theoretically).

Is that a fact, that you can encroach on a penalty as long as you don’t interfere with the end result?

What if you encroaching causes another player to naturally follow, as I would do in that situation?

It’s a funny one

The Liverpool FC Thread

VAR FTW

Seriously though, the offsides are ridiculous now. Needs a total rethink to create a margin of doubt in favour of the attacker.

Both VAR decisions technically correct I suppose:

The first was pretty clear, I have no idea why they took so long about it though.

Second one was another of these marginal ones that, under the system with the made up lines, was offside. Trouble I think is with the lines, I don't think they use them in Europe or anywhere else probably because they are frankly a guess! They have a guy draw a line downward on a 2D image to make a line supposedly at ground level, but it's his guess at where the ground is, and then they act like it's a fact!

Do away with the lines, if it's too close to call almost instantly with an experienced eye on the 2D image then give the attacker the benefit of the doubt. I think if they did that then pretty much all the disallowed goals this weekend would have stood

I think we all pretty much agree with the VAR offsides
