He certainly didn't have a good game at all but then that applies to most of the senior players in the team especially in the first half.

Keita also seemed to pick up another injury as well.

Other than the penalty save, I would also like to know what the coaches see in Kelleher. There were times when he made Karius look world class.

First cup match I've been to at Anfield, and what a cracker!

I thought Gomez had a very good game, but elsewhere we were awful.

Arsenal weren't creating anything, just capitalising on dreadful mistakes from us.

I bizarrely really enjoyed that last night, possibly due to the lack of stakes and also seeing some of the more inexperienced players getting a run out. In the end turned out to be a thriller and I'd imagine it was really character building for the youngsters.

Disappointed to hear this morning of the risk of us pulling out of it having fought to win so hard, hopefully someone can juggle come fixtures.

It would have been easier all round if we’d have lost the penalty shoot out

I understand that it's not ideal, but Klopp could easily send two teams out. Play some of the U23s in the one he gives the least of a **** about (Club World Cup IMO).

He's just being stubborn to complain about fixtures.

He wants to win the club world cup. He's not interested in the Carabo.

He should prefer the League Cup. The WCC is an unnecessary sham of a competition.

You do realise that he did more than that the other night and in earlier rounds ? The majority of the team that played on Wednesday were from the U23s or lower.

He also has to name a squad of 23 for the CWC so if he was made to play on that day, LFC's League Cup team would be made up of mostly U18s and U17s - as the first team squad PLUS the better U23s will all be in Qatar

There is zero reason not to move the fixture - it has happened several times before.

And you honestly think Klopp regards the Carabao Cup as more important than the CWC ???

The League Cup is a joke of a competition hence why no Premier League side ever goes full strength in it.

FIFA have told us we have to play in the WCC, so we don't have a choice.
Thing is I can see him playing a similar team in the semi-final of the WCC, followed by the first team in the final.

You've got more than enough good players to field two XIs and fill the rest of the squad with kids. And then send the weakest one to Qatar.

Aren't you going to end up with some middling Mexican side in the CWC?

Aren't there rules about percentages of first team players?

It's a bit pants if you have to split your first team squad and not play your best side in either competition? In fact you'd be better off pulling out of one of the competitions, probably the one that is less lucrative or will get you in less trouble to do

Which devales the League Cup more, us playing our 3rd team or pulling out now and letting Arsenal play instead?

The other fly in the "play 2 teams at once" ointment is that the U23s are also due to play PSG that week.

Not forgetting that, apparently, both the Carabao Cup and CWC require squads of 23, three of which need to be keepers. I am not even sure LFC have that many registered keepers on their books.

Nothing wrong with Firmino's goal there ... only his hand was offside.

And then Mane is booked after being fouled.

Ah wait ... John Moss is the ref and Atkinson is the VAR. Everything becomes clear

That offside is nonsense, and these tight offsides are really not sitting right with me now.

It doesn't even look offside to me. The line on Girmino's shoulder seems not quite properly vertical and my eyes and brain is telling me he's at least level.

You're relying on the human operator to get those exactly right which can't be guaranteed. I don't understand why they can't say if the system says the goal is less than X amount of inches offside then it stands because of incalculable margin of error in such a system. 3 inches would seem fair. There's no way VAR can guarantee that the ball is exactly released at the correct millisecond or the lines are done 100% correctly by the operator.

The stream I was watching clearly showed the lines proving he was onside. The VAR then moved/redrew Firmino's line to show him as offside. It was a farce

We’ve seen a few of these now in the Premier League and I can’t see how anyone can disagree with you. There has to be a margin of error where benefit is given to the attacker.

Yeh I'm fairly sure when they came up with offside, it wasn't designed to penalise which way you were leaning slightly. I thought there was supposed to be daylight?

That used to be the rule, but just like attacking handball they seem to have tried to make it black and white just for VAR.
