Rick and Morty

Really needs a thread of its own.

Just spotted season 2 starts on Fox on Sky tonight (Thursday) 11pm channel 124. Double ep followed by another Adult Swim series that I've not heard of called "Mr Pickles"

I meant to start this thread a few weeks ago and got sidetracked and never got round to it. But yeah, I absolutely love this show.

On the surface it's pretty silly, but actually it can be quite deep and is always very clever without being TOO clever. Some of the episode concepts are outrageous but they're kept grounded by the two leads. It's just... I love it.

Despite what I've just said, and as puerile as it is, my favourite thing about the whole show is Rick's constant belching mid sentence.

I adore this show, it's so damn clever sometimes and it's at the top with Archer as my fav cartoon show right now.

If you're on Sky the first series is available in catchup. Looking forward to this as they did a mashup between this and The Simpsons during the opening credits of an episode and that was the best thing about a Simpsons episode for quite a while

FX UK didn't show the pilot episode though, sadly. Is it available anywhere streaming?

Is this related to Back to the Future in any way?

Well, it's very loosely based on a (pretty stupid) Back to the Future parody that Justin Roiland made a few years back, called The Adventures of Doc & Mharti. (The one-joke premise of this cartoon was that for any problem, Doc would tell Mharti that the only solution was to "Lick my balls, Mharti!")

There's really nothing left of that except for the basic character designs and voices, and the only remaining link to BTTF is the concept of an older, white-haired crazy scientist-type with a teenage boy as his sidekick/protégé. But honestly, the premise is closer to a parody of Doctor Who than to Back to the Future.

I see. Haven't watched this yet but saw some clips. It was just like Doc and Marty. But that explains it thanks.

Sadly, the doc just drunkenly shouting 'MORTY!' over & over for 20 minutes gets tedious very quickly.

Watched the first few episodes of season 1 after someone mentioned it in the Community thread, but it did very little for me so I gave up.

Give the first ep of season 2 a go, its a good example of how scientifically deep it can get.

Episode 2 of season 2 is really good too. there's a lot of emotional depth, as well as scientific depth.

Also, Mr Meeseeks in s1e5 is just a wonderful, wonderful character.

At the end of season two, Mr. Poopybutthole said season 3 wouldn't happen for another year and a half... so March 2017.
