I did think progs like this & the wire & Game of thrones are fine if you have the patience to stick with it in the hope it gets good, but do think it's a wasted opportunity for new technology (perhaps we are not there yet?) as they should be like a RPG game where you watch the film/ep but if you hover a mouse or something over someone a tag will come up telling you who they are and gives you submenus to investigate/remind yourself of them further. This would be ideal for one of these 'drop you in the deep end' programs!
I have to agree, i'm having a sort of love/hate relationship with this show. I love the money they thrown at it and the world building. but up until episode 8 it's been a bit of a mess. I was only really engaged in the storyline of the crew on the stolen ship (the one they disguised as a freighter) as it was the only one that made narrative sense.

Now that all the paths are crossing in Ep8 i hope the 2-part final will tie things up nicely.

So far the world building is just reminding me of Babylon 5 as its a lot of walking down corridors packed with extras making the place look gritty. Was saying to a friend today Babylon 5 took a whole season to give the viewers a chance to climatise and get used to the characters relationships and places. Now modern telly doesn't even give us one episode!

Discovered last night that when I watched episode 2 it was actually episode 3 and the file had been labelled along, it's annoying that the eps themselves don't display their titles on screen!

Watch them in order, far easier to understand!

Been thinking about getting Netflix. Might use the free trial to rewatch this and then decide if I'm keeping it or not...

Season two coming in Jan 2017! Book 6 coming out in December! Sci-fi fun!

Finished watching Season 1 again, bar the final ep. Basically confirms what I thought first time round - it's a solid show, but it's not stellar. As TV sci-fi goes at the moment, that's good enough. Still looking forward to the new season, but not with the same sense of anticipation I have for The Americans and other first-tier stuff.

I'm just not feeling this, I keep trying but it seems more like a soap opera than a scifi show. Just because you set something in space doesn't always make it scifi. (well it does but you know what I mean.)

I'm on ep5/6, does it get better?

Last couple of episodes are a little better but I felt the same as you.

Go to the ‘end’ of this last night. Have to say it seems the most bizarre way to end a show I’ve seen…went back to the episode listings thinking I’m misread the number, fully expecting to see a couple of further episodes I’d overlooked. What was that? – it wasn’t a cliffhanger…wasn’t a conclusion…just very strange (they could have AT LEAST done a brief montage with perilous music rising in the background, to say we’ve reached an important juncture…but nothing!)

Took a lot less time than is usually the case with these things, although agree that the Thomas Jane side of the story was a little dull (though I started to like him by the end).

As I’d read Leviathan Wakes I was keener to stick with it than certain other sci-fi efforts. Some of it was very much Sci-Fi channel anonymous corridors etc, but thought the stuff in space was nicely done.

Could have done with more humour and a tighter script though…and the general tone was a bit jarring at times…largely a PG rated space adventure (particularly as the casting for Holden seemed to come from a boy band lineup), but with maybe 2 or 3 bits of graphic violence (was there an opening sex scene too?) that seemed out of place.

The guy that played Amos looked creepily like Tyrol from BSG

I can see the argument that it's not a very good show, but the idea that it's more soap opera than sci-fi doesn't ring true. You've got space battles, hollowed-out asteroids, an inhabited Mars and Moon, efforts to colonise the stars, and absolutely no extra-marital affairs I noticed.

I think having read the books, I can see where it's going and, if they play their cards right, the final verdict on the first season will be 'bit slow and confusing, but worth it when you see what it's setting up'.

Finally finished season 1. It's a flawed show, but it gets better and better as it goes and now I'm quite eager to see season 2. Very dense and very hard to follow the plot, it's the sort of thing where it will make much more sense on a second viewing; Earthers, Mars, Belters, OPA, Mormons, etc. - and not sure who is who because they all look the same.

I also think it's miscast and the characterisation is really weak (outside of Detective Miller, at least). That was a problem in the book, too. Visually it feels like a mix between Mass Effect and Wing Commander, which I liked.

Anyone up to date? I'm loving the new season so far, feels like they're picking up the pace and looks like they've found a nice big bag of budget to spend.

Yeah I'm up to date & still enjoying it a lot. I read the first novel years ago & can only remember bits & pieces but there are parts that I recall that have still to occur in the show so is the show still working its way through book one or are they doing a Game of Thrones advancing certain plot lines further than others?

They're onto book 2 now, but they have made some plot changes. Notably, in the books (Book 1 spoiler)

I vaguely remember that at the end of book one...

Or did I just imagine that?

I think that was a bit later than Book 1.
