It feels strange to declare this so good after only 3 episodes, but the quality is there and just keeps going up. It's as good as getting a new season of Breaking Bad.

Although, I imagine anybody coming to this without having seen BB will be wondering what the fuss is all about.

Is this accessible for someone who's not watched Breaking Bad?

It is, because the story is stand-alone. It's a prequel in the same world. If you have seen BB, you will recognise the younger version of some characters you'll see "later" in BB. But you obviously don't need to know what happens to them in BB to understand the story here.

Like BB, you need to be prepared for a show with deliberate pacing, but where the more you get to know the characters, the more involving the show gets. Gilligan is quite happy to take his time getting to wherever he is going. And so you might be left feeling not much is going on. And yet...

Give it the first 2 or 3 episodes to find out whether the tone and setting work for you. Saul had a fairly minor role in BB, but here he carries the show quite effortlessly.

Also, now that BB is done, you should consider catching up on it. You've got nothing but time and no new episodes coming out. And it's such an incredible show (but, once again, building up slowly).

Cheers. Appreciate the reply. I've seen BB, but the wife hasn't. Think I'll try to get her into this... Best case she'll love it and then want to watch BB

Things like the end of the 1st episode have much more impact if you've seen BB

Breaking bad first all the way through THEN BCS. It's the only right way.

Although it is a prequel, it's looking like it'll run for a long time and tbh it's not BB Season 0, it is designed to be viewed after watching BB. How he went from how he was to how he became what he became, would lose some of the impact if you watched it chronologically and at this level of his development is more like a young Chewbacca turning up in the Star Wars prequels.

It'd also lose the impact of when Saul turns up in BB and how he is, he really is a great character and deserves his big entrance.

I've seen all of BB and its is a truly fantastic series.

Does anyone know, off hand, when Saul made his entrance in BB?

It would be interesting to watch again

Better Call Saul (Saul's first appearance) is episode 8 of Season 2. In fact, there's only 13 episodes in season 2...

Quality viewing again last night. Bu-utthole, butthole butthole (to the tune of Smoke on the Water), I'm gonna come round to the McDonalds you work at and roundhouse kick you in your faces.

Yeah, it's quickly become the show I'm looking forward to most each week. 4th episode was fantastic again, though I didn't click what was going on with the billboard until the reveal!

I'd like to spend a bit more time with Chuck, partly because he's becoming more and more interesting and partly because Mike McKean.
