From what little I know, the latter, as the general rule is not to mix RAM types.

You could always run a memory benchmark (e.g.) and compare?

I spose it depends how much you use. If you need more than 16GB then enough RAM at a slower speed will be far and away your best option.

You can mix RAM without any issues other than the faster RAM will run at a lower speed.

Thanks. I guess for the small amount I use the machine these days, mainly for word and office etc with the odd dabble on divinity 2 or a game from 5 years ago I may as well leave at 24
