Yes, we have had larger debts than this before but this time it’s going to take a lot longer to pay it all off. And, I’m afraid, yes we do need spending cuts and there will have to be more of them and/or significant tax rises by the early part of the next decade.

And an accessible, free online econ course here (video &/or text based) - Peak Prosperity - The Crash Course seeks to provide you with a baseline understanding of the economy so that you can better appreciate the risks that we all face. The Intro below is separated from the rest of the sections because you'll only need to see it once...it tells you about how the Crash Course came to be.

I would add, for those interested in the economy, why its broken and what can be done these are brilliant:

A rather different website for this thread, but worthy of a wider audience and unsure where to post it - a very clever idea, fusing animation, art and HTML5 tech.

This Exquisite Forest is an online collaborative art project that lets users create short animations that build off one another as they explore a specific theme. The result is a collection of branching narratives resembling trees.
The project was produced by Google and Tate - it makes extensive use of Google Chrome’s HTML5 and JavaScript support, as well as Google App Engine and Google Cloud Storage.
A physical installation is located in the collection galleries on Level 3 at Tate Modern, and will be open for approximately 6 months beginning on July 23, 2012.

Twitter & Social Media tools

These look interesting & useful from here at PR Daily - not seen any of them before - "content curation" and real-time content discovery, to see what's trending & popular -

Bottlenose.com - This site combines your Twitter and LinkedIn activity preferences with a continuous scan of trending topics to deliver tailored results in real time. The searching ability of Bottlenose is solid, too - and no need to log in.

rt.ly = "real time" from bit.ly - This tool serves up content along with that story’s real-time popularity. For example, at a given moment an interview with Jay-Z might be shared at a rate of 16.2 times per minute. Needs a bitly account.

Sulia.com - The tag line for this service is the “interest network,” which is a fair summation. Login with FB or Twitter.

Alternion.com - This service combines all your social media preferences with real-time discovery and organization.

Social Buzz - takes your keywords, runs a search, and adds the analytics associated with those results to give you the most relevant content options. No need to sign in.
