That's an interesting article and pretty much sums up how I feel about it. It'd be great if we could build up a Champions League-challenging squad from shrewd transfers and local lads, but it's not going to happen - not for us or for any other team.

If Newcastle don't make the Champions League, I wonder if they will be able to hang on to Cabaye?

I think it's great that somebody has put in the investment to give some outsider (luckliy, it was us) the change of mixing it with the big teams. I hope that clubs like Newcastle and Everton can get an outside cash injection in the future, but this is less likely with FFP.

Said on the United thread that I think the key for us tonight is to sacrifice Nasri and play De Jong in midfield so that this will allow Yaya to go on his runs. I reckon with this tactic, we've got a very good chance of winning tonight.

...the one positive I can take into tonight's game is that you need to beat us...a draw would be okay for us as we can still draw against Sunderland on the final day and win the title. I expect a VERY attacking game from you tonight which might well suit us on the counter... ...fair to say it's going to be a tense affair for all of us!

When City go 2 nil up in the opening 15 mins, everyone will be able to relax.

I'm honestly not tense about the game - if we win great, it should set us on the way to the title (although a potential banana skin awaits by the Tyne). If we lose, then United will have deserved the title.

I can't stress enough how exciting it is, for the first time in my life, to be watching my team playing for the title. I realise that it's different for United fans who've seen it all so many times before, but this really is new territory for me. Sure, I'll be disappointed if we lose, but we've had a great season - we were in a great position, tossed it away with some poor results, but have come good again. Like I said a few days ago, sign me up for another season like this in August.

Anyway, hope the game lives up to it's billing and no stupid red cards in the first half hour spoil it.

...how can you not be tense??

...you're within touching distance of the title and are most probably the bookies favourites to beat the greatest team in premiership history tonight...a feat that would put one hand firmly on the trophy...and you ain't tense???

...you deserve to lose then

I probably will be when the game starts and I'll be miserable for a while if we don't win, but it's still been a great season and that's how I'll feel in a couple of weeks time, whatever the result.

For a change, I'm confident tonight - it's probably all the negativity in the United thread that's suckering me into feeling this way though!

To be honest, I think an awful lot of football fans would be delighted to see a stupid red card for Tevez

A cracking time to get a goal.

Nice for Kompany to get it as he was wrongly booked after Rooneys antics.

Very good performance tonight; we should have put a couple more chances away, but you couldn't ask for more commitment from the players out there. Zabaleta & Nasri were excellent on the right tonight and Barry played a blinder in the middle, breaking up attacks and calmly distributing the ball. He gets a lot of stick and I'm so glad that in front of a massive worldwide audience, he showed people how good he has been for us over the last few years.

A big step, but not over yet. Newcastle on Sunday and as we're still Man City, still time to chimp it up.

Titles are never won and lost on a single game, but if we were to win it on goal difference, that 6-1 at Old Trafford is looking very handy.

Just back from the game. Happy Day indeed. 2 games to go and City have given themselves a great crack at the title. I'd given up after the Arsenal game so this is all gravy

Pleased for you lot, the better team won, I wouldn't have thought this Man U squad would have deserved the league.

I don't hate you. I pity you that you are so pathetic, shallow and desperate that you'll take even the most meaningless success and try to make it seem real.

Noticeable that city fans post after the game....plenty of armchair fans on the other thread.
