Fair enough, just based on my experience (London and Manchester).

Let's be honest, the truth probably lies somewhere between the polar opinions on these threads. There are United, Liverpool, Newcastle, Arsenal and various other fans at work. Whilst there has been some general banter, I've not actually come across and "City are evil" attitudes. Same with fans of various clubs I've met on holiday.

On the other hand, my uncle, staunch United fan, has made some comment about their great tradition and them not buying the league.

Similarly comments on Football365 and the broadsheet newspaper sites cover the whole spectrum.

Whether we win the league or not, I've thoroughly enjoyed it (from my armchair or course) and I'll look forward to more of the same next season. If we do win the league, as far as I know, the engraver hasn't been asked to put an asterisk next to our name on the trophy. Still, that's counting chickens, because a fired-up Newcastle await on Sunday.

Decent article. I particularly liked this bit:-

The Sheikh is most certainly NOT a sugar daddy. He is an investor. Whereas the sugar daddy spends only on players, the investor puts money into providing the club with long term assets. Hence Sheikh Mansour is developing the academy, the training facilities and the community.

I'm sure that if you surveyed all football fans you'd get all opinions across the spectrum, averaging around the 'don't give a *(&^ either way'! The point I was making that Flap's assertions that the Forums were odd isn't my experience and was no more or less valid than assertions based on my experiences and that I don't believe that the Forums view as an average is particularly strange. For example DY's rants are balanced out by Citysmith's inability to answer a question without asking one and over use of smilies (and yes that one is deliberate)!

Sponsorship moving from Umbro to Nike. All Kit will be designed and manufactured by Nike from now on. No idea what the deal is worth though.

Im hoping the designs that Umbro have been making will continue as they are owned by Nike. It should result in a lot more shirt sales though which can only be good.

Isn't this just the same deal but transferred to the Nike arm.

Even if it did produce more sales, I'm not really sure how that benefits City.

Because Nike have a vast global retail network that will now distribute the kits and related gear. You will start to see them in more sports stores around the globe than you would normally.

I thought Manchester City fans only came from Manchester?

You seem to be under the illusion that Nike have some sort of payment scheme per shirt sold, if shirt sales rise 200%, Nike will be seeing that 200%, not City.

It might be of some benefit in the future when negotiating your next deal though.

Bad result for City today, should gee Newcastle up even more!
Having said that, can't see them getting anything out of the game.

To be honest I've not seen proof either way that a percentage goes to the team. But unless there are epl rules to state other wise it would be very odd for a team not too. every American sport does it, real Madrid definitely does it (the paid off Ronaldos few in 1 year with shirt sales alone).

If it's anything like the music industry, the manufacturer pays a lump sum in advance for the right to sell the clothing. The band/club get the money whether 10 shirts or 10k are sold but will only make more money by what they can sell through club shops. Shirts sold in other outlets are nothing to do with the club - and only have value for future contract negotiations (popular clubs equal attractive investments)

*possibility this is BS

To be fair that sounds exactly the way it is.

On a side note I'm back in the fanzone booth tomorrow (you could see a grown man cry ) Will drop a mention of the forums in there
