The eye popping scene is pretty special too.

How strange. I haven't read all of this thread. But your link gives the title of a book (I Heard You Paint Houses) which I was looking to buy a few months ago, but couldn't recall the name.

This has to go ahead! Whilst I've enjoyed everything (apart from Shutter Island) that Marty has done recently, De Niro and Pacino are well overdue a decent project! And Pesci is the icing on the cake.

Cant see why not. Scorsese is as prolific as ever and De Niro & Pacino will jump at the chance to get back into proper credible films.

I just meant it typical Hollywood fashion, with a great story, a great director and a seriously great cast they'll somehow mess it up and it won't happen...

Seriously hope it makes it to the big screen

They may do, but the question is have they still got it? Looking at their IMDB pages the last film that stands out for me when De Niro tried was Jackie Brown in '97, and Pacino is only a little better with Insomnia in 2002. It just seems to me they're not that bothered about really making great films anymore.

I don't think actors of their calibre ever really lose it, they just need the right material to get it going again.

Well i hope i'm right.

There's been plenty of good material around since '97 or '02, and I'm certain if they wanted to have really decent scripts/roles to work with they could have had them. Actors, especially ones of their calibre and status, can easily find out about the great films being developed and who would turn down either of these guys?

An argument could be made that Pacino's been doing some experimental stuff, e.g. TV with Angels in America, but otherwise it's pretty dire.

We'll have to see. The only people who know for certain if they still have it are the lads themselves. I hope they do and i cannot wait to see this film.

Unless I have missed something. DeNiro's last decent film was Ronin in 1998, and Pacino's last one was Insomnia in 2001. I don't think either is a great film and am feeling generous.

Scorsese has a better record in recent years.

This set up sounds like the best idea for a movie project since I first read about Inglorious Basterds. More optimistic days, thinking QT making a Dirty Dozen film with Brad Pitt sounded like the best thing ever.... Oh well..

De Niro seems to have settled into comedies, which I guess is what he enjoys doing now. No idea about Pacino, but Insomnia was good and it wasn't that long ago.

[EDIT: Scratch that, Insomnia was nearly ten years ago. ]

Come to think of it, Pacino hit a rut in the late 70s and didn't do any decent films of note only to return to form in Scarface in '83.

And apart from Midnight Run, what did De Niro do that was any good between King of Comedy and Goodfellas?

Practially everything he was in between King of Comedy and Goodfellas was awesome on some level.

Once Upon A Time in America, Brazil, Angel Heart, The Untouchables, The Mission.
