Ace! I'm off to find a copy, as long as it's thicker than a sheet of paper.

Ok, got a problem with my turntable (Project Genie).

Suddenly it sounds horrible! All voices are really muffled and really crackly at the high end. Time for a new stylus? I've checked all connections and earths.

"Suddenly ..." - you've not just got a load of dust/crap on the stylus?

Nope, however the sound does sound a bit like when you have loads of dust on the stylus.

All I own is If You Want Blood & Powerage by AC/DC and Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash..

Want to start to collecting them properly, want some Jimi Hendrix ones.

Did you ever go for either of those?
Vinyl 180 just opened their own online store and The Cult albums have been reduced by 50%.

i have a considerable collection of whats now called old skool huse, and early drum n bass, quite a few white labels (12'' - remember those?)

im ot sure, but you can try juno.co.uk or com , they used to have a massive back catalog for mail order of vinyl, now they do alot of mp3's as well, but if your into dance music, its a great palce to start ...

There's one of these posh magazines out now, Mojo 60s or something, designed to get some money from the baby boomers before they all die. Anyhoo, the first issue is a tenner but you get a yellow vinyl Beach Boys 7" as part of the package.

There's going to be a 2nd Record Store Day this year - late November I believe. Way to kill a concept already.

In other news, win some vinyl here:

The PD seems to sell for £200+ (although it has been counterfeited) so you need to be sure you have an original.

The white vinyl, maybe a little more. You have to decide whether to Ebay them or take the hit and sell to a dealer.

I got given my Dads old technics turntable today, so grabbed my Vinyl collection out the loft, its like a new toy again I have recently flogged all my collectable Depeche Cd collection, but my Vinyl will never go. I have not touched it for nearly 10 years, and due to me keeping it all in plastic sleeves all mint as can be

There is something different about vinyl i find. Well, anyway, went to hook up the old turntable and fire some tunes up only to find my modern amp does not have phono, so its dead quiet

anyone recommend a cheap phono stage?

Best bet would be to look for something like a Nad 3020 amp on eBay as you'll pick it up for less than most cheap phono stages and it will sound lovely and warm, almost like a valve amp.

I don't have the room for another amp, was just going to chuck a small phono stage behind my gear. I have no idea what the cheaper ones are like, but some on amazon for about 25 quid get decent reviews.

I'm running my Rega Planar 2 (bought when I was doing my A levels, now 20 years old ) through my Pioneer AV amp with a NAD PP2 pre-amp.

There's really no need to set up a separate amp, unless you've shelled out mega-bucks for a turntable. My setup sounds great, and I'm still regularly playing vinyl I bought in my teens My advice would be, don't skimp on the pre-amp or the cartridge, the two things that will affect the sound the most.

A.
