Why has this thread been merged with a Shawshank thread?

Indeed.

I suggest spolier tags and apologies are made for the massive Shawshank spoilers posted by the folks above.

Whilst the majority of people who are interested in watching Shawshank will already have done so, those that haven't WILL NOT be expecting to see spoilerific debates in a Walking Dead TV show thread.

Oh c'mon, you're not being serious are you? It's one thing complaining about spoilers for a show that's currently airing, but an extremely popular movie that's 15+ years old??

How do people think the military checkpoints got overrun? Out of ammo or sheer volume of walkers?

LOL - I believe there was a Titantic 2 on Syfy last month. No zombies, I am betting.

I was really curious about what happened to them, too.

This is actually the TV forum, if we're being pedantic. Mass appeal equals more contributors to debate, rightly or wrongly.

Err, I never said Shawshank wouldn't have mass appeal without the ending, I said the ending probably made the film more massively popular. There's a big difference in those two things (and yes I do believe Shawshank would have had mass appeal and would be talked about with reverence on boards like these without the ending).

There were no spent shell casings anywhere as well (at least I couldn't see any) so who knows what the military were doing!

The book world war Z gives possible and plausible reasons why the military would be ill equipped to deal with a zombie apocalypse. Without giving too much away lack of suitable weapons, wrong tactics and not realising that walkers have no need for sleep/command and control etc were the reasons

Spoilers for WWZ

Isn't it normally that the military don't realise that the infection (or whatever) has spread behind their lines and they get flanked? That's the run-of-the-mill slow zombie thing. That or they freak out and start fighting each other.

The Walking Dead (u.s. pace & no spoilers from the comic please)

Id love to see a zom flick that showed the infection from start to full blown catastrophe. Cant think of any that do.

You're right, we don't.
I thought better safe than sorry, since I'm not even sure what this thread is about anymore. Didn't want to go spoiling it for somebody who hasn't seen the show at the U.S. pace, even though that's stated in the title.

I'm geniunely not sure as speculation could still hit the bull's-eye. And I thought this was US pace with a 'wait a few days as UK is not far behind' ethos. I can't think of another TV thread that has caused so much confusion between the DVDF family.

The Dawn Of The Dead remake did it pretty well - especially with the overhead chopper shot near the beginning. There's some nice early comments in the hospital about people with bite wounds too.

Thing is, much as I love zombie films, they can't be over-analysed. It really wouldn't be that hard to contain the slow-type zombies and if it were a real life event I'd imagine you could turn the situation around pretty fast. My local Sainsburys could be secured pretty easily - it's built to prevent ram raiders etc. Would be a doddle to secure it against zombies! There are countless shops and supermarkets you could hole up in. It wouldn't take long for the authorities to get things under control and then you just need procedures on how to deal with people when they die - you know - get them to the crematorium sharp-ish or if they're not being cremated make sure you chop the head off! As a plague it's not really much worse than rabies.

Return of the Living Dead 2 showed the outbreak of the infection, I'm pretty sure.

Spoilers obviously, as nobody wants to have that classic ruined:

Does anyone else think something is off with the pacing of the show? I'm loving it but there's something missing....
