Bit strange that after he woke up Rick showed no curiosity whatsoever about what has happened exactly: "OK then everyone's a zombie - now where's my wife and son?"

I liked the show but agree. Where was the "what the heck happened?" scene?

Second episode was good, but seemed a lot different from the first. No more cut in half, or full on decaying zombies... just your run of the mill grey/green makeup ones! But I guess that's understandable for a TV show, I'm not sure how anyone can find them scary though...

A few more things that annoyed me though:

But as I said, enjoying it still but I'm worried as it was looking like one of more the recent (poor) Romero zombie flicks at times in this episode, as opposed to the 28 Days Later feel of the first episode...

I can come round your house and groan a bit if you want the full 5.1 effect.

Fantastic second episode, and a larger cast of characters than the comics made do with (more zombie fodder I guess). Oh, and if you need someone to play a racist redneck there really is no one better qualified than Michael Rooker!

If that's the case, then I wonder if they've got a plan for season 2 yet, since it was just given the green light yesterday. Will we get new characters? Draw out the character's stories, even though "we should have nothing more we want to know about them"?

For the most part, I liked this week's installment, although

The Walking Dead comic is up to #78, so I would imagine they'll have a vague idea of where to go for Season 2!

I just caught up with episode 1. Brilliant stuff!

You can see a mile off that Darabont knows the source material (at least at this stage) is nothing even approaching original, so has taken the wise move of focussing on how events unfold, not just going for shock value. The scene with Lenny James and the sniper rifle, cross cut with Egg and the semi-zombie was one of the best I have seen on TV in a while.

For me it was layered with subtext. The approach of Grimes, carefully moving toward the zombie, almost as you would approach an animal that needed to be put down, was such a contrast with the (for me essential) opening scene of him with the little girl - where his face went cold and he did what needed to be done - signposted what I hope (not having read the comics) is a great development Arc for him. But ultimately that scene was about doing what needs to be done to survive. Grimes did pull the trigger, despite his obvious numbness to what the world has become around him. Lennie didn't. One character will obviously persist. One will not.

Brilliant telly for me making ep 2 unmissable.

+1.

It comes to something when more folks are making better 'Romereo Style Zombie' stuff than George Romero himself.

Better than "Diary....." and "Survival..." put together.

Good on Frank Darabont. His stuff is always worth a look. It's nice to see a Brit in the lead role of another American show too. Also, it's good to see that Greg Nicotero is the FX consultant. It shows a nice linear progression from his Savini understudy days. It is only now right and fair that with that class of pedigree, he is the 'go to' guy for undead FX.

So even though it may not have much of a budget, by goodness it looks much more expensive than it is.
