Was it just me or did they focus a lot on one of the zombies in the city? (the one that woke up on the bus)

My guess i think one of them is doing a 'Bill Murry'

Other than the very odd choice of putting in that first scene and not liking the early reveal of his family being alive I loved it.

Really enjoyed this. Actually assumed it was some more quality from HBO because of all the gore so surprised to see it wasnt when I seen the closing credits.
I have always been a huge fan of zombie movies though, so there was a always a fair chance I would like this, but be interesting to see if it gets a widespread following...hope it does because i want to see more

It's had mammoth viewing figures in the US (for cable anyway) so it should be ok for a couple of series.

Watched the 1st episode last night. What can I say? Absolutely fantastic!!

It just shows what kind of quality stuff can be made for TV. Beats the likes of The Event, Flash Forward etc hands down!

I'm glad to say that even the wife enjoyed it! It's getting more and more difficult these days for me to find programmes that both of us can watch together. Although, we watched it around midnight last night and she did comment that it was a bit bloody just before bed time!

Anyway, brilliant make-up and effects and decent acting too. The half body zombie crawling on the grass was just fantastic. I just hope it keeps up the standard of the pilot.

I don't know why people are complaining about the first clip of him shooting the zombie girl though.....it's not as if most people watching a show called "The Walking Dead" wouldn't have guessed what it's all about.

Roll on episode 2

Oh, meant to say......loved the score by Bear McCreary, especially towards the end when the guy from Jericho was aiming the gun at his zombie wife and the deputy was trailing the half body zombie. Very emotional.

Very average opening episode tbh as I found it all very predictable.

The black father/son story was a bit weak to be honest and I hope they don't re-appear later in the series as the kid annoyed the **** out of me.

Hopefully the second episode will pick up a bit.

I'm not quite sure what there was to find predictable? It's not like they're trying to trick you with their narrative. Predictability does not equal bad, I wish people would stop pretending it does.

Certainly better than the graphic novels. Everyone exists just to spout exposition, and Lennie James and his son are no different. But Darabont fleshed them out a lot and gave them a bit of depth that's lacking from...well everyone in Kirkman's book.

It's quality. You can well imagine it hangin about with R2-D2. And when the fan is switched on it looks like it's scanning for life-forms like R2-D2 does on the ice world of Hoth when Luke Skywalker goes missing. Quality in moton. The other day it disappeared. I said, "where's the bag-l gone? have the jawas come to pick it up in the sandcrawler?" to which one of the girls in the office replied, "No, Les the porter!" —Captainchode

It's hard not to be predictable when dealing with a well-known, established source material and also a genre so familiar to people.

Isn't it a bit early to make statements like that?

Morgan and Duane's only purpose is to point Rick toward Atlanta, one minor event in a pretty full twenty two page comic. Kirkman did a pretty decent job serving them despite their bit part status.

But it isn't just them. Kirkman can't write for **** and all of his characters outside of Rick serve exactly the same function. He's hamfisted, which doesn't bode well for the episode he scripted.

He comes out with great ideas. But dialogue/character wise it's like the just writes things up quickly and be done with it.

I agree that Kirkman's dialogue is awful, but there's nothing wrong with his characters. The progress of the characters from their initial appearances to hardened survivors is pretty natural as is how everyone reacts to their given situations. He's guilty of underdeveloping some of them before killing them off, but that's only natural given the size of the cast.

I just think it's too early to compare the show and the comic. With the pilot, Darabont's essentially taken the first thirty pages of the comic and turned it into sixty seven minutes of TV. Doing that was always going to require additional material and he just happened to strike gold with some of it (Morgan and Duane) while other parts of it were really hamfisted - Shane's development is abysmal. There's absolutely nothing likable about the guy and his leadership is laughably bad right from the start.

Kirkman's main strengths as a storyteller, and therefore the strengths of the comic, are long-term plotting and character development. It's not really fair to declare the show better until we see if it's on a par in those areas.

Oh dear, I didn't like it.
I can't fault it but having absolutely loved the comic I found that there was no tension because I know what's coming. In fact, I know what's coming LONG into the future of the story (probably beyond the show being cancelled!) and that's robbed it of lots of interest for me.
Shame really - I imagine it will be a hell of a ride for those who are new to the story but not for me I'm afraid.

Loved it, filled me with dread from the get-go. Really enjoyed the Lenny Bruce/wife scenes, very well done, the zombie in the park. Can't wait for the next ep.

And not one ad break, FX hd rules!
