After going through the usual 9am onslaught and getting what I can only imagine to be the last two Stoke tickets, circumstances have conspired against us and have had to sell them. Flippin' balls. Still, slight comfort supplied by meeting Lord and Lady Marr recently and what a lovely bloke he is, charming and funny.

Oh, and I'll complete the hat trick of having been on the stage of my chosen venue on this tour (Hanley Victoria Hall.) Performing ? No. Exams ? No. 1970s wrestling a la Rollerball Rocco and Johnny Saint ? Ermmm ...

BBC R2 - Janice Long Show - listen again - Featuring the world premiere of three new Morrissey tracks, recorded live at Maida Vale last week (broadcast last night). Available to listen for 7 days only.

With a new record complete but no label to put it out, Morrissey debuted three new songs — Stream of just the 3 tracks @ SlicingUpEyeballs -
- “Action Is My Middle Name”
- “The Kid’s A Looker” and
- “People Are The Same Everywhere”

I've not listened to them yet, but getting mixed reviews apparently.

And for the budding DJs & remixers amongst you, there's a newish fan rip of the audio from Rock Band discussed here - these are multi-tracked recordings of "Stop Me If You've Heard This One Before" with separate files for vocals, bass, guitar, etc. Stick the files into Audacity and create your own remix ! Interesting if only to here Moz's vocals in isolation - but I've never been keen on the sound processing on his voice here.

Morrissey did a gig in my town the other night, and wanted the venue to not preparing any meat that day...

http://www.perthshireadvertiser.co.u...3103-28870217/

What a fanny! Poor wickle Morrissey might smell a ham sandwich whilst being in the vicinity of some humans that day! Being a vegetarian is one thing, forcing it on everyone else is another thing entirely! Dick!

Yeah - it's well known that he's a prima donna. As much as I love much of his lyrics/music, I bet he's hard work to have as a mate !

He always does that. MEN had to be meat free for is big birthday bash a few years back and his Cheltenham gig was cancelled before tickets even went on sale because the venue was part of the racecourse

He is a big enough artist that he can do this and I think most venues would rather comply than risk a cancellation and the loss of income that would bring with it

It's not that big a problem for arenas. I can only think of them selling ropey Hot dogs. A festival on the other hand must be nightmare.

True enough. I bet he hasn't tried that on with Glastonbury.

So, has the supposed Smiths reunion actually got any credibility?

Nah ... I can see Moz and Marr maybe playing together at some point in the not-too-distant future but Moz can still play Smiths songs and still make plenty money on the tour circuit and basically just do his own thing (a bit like Weller) without having to go down that road.

If you look at Stone Roses, some of the factors are the same but the members are relying on royalties from just two albums and I doubt playing bass in Primal Scream is terribly lucrative.

Morrissey has a substantial back catalogue and the fact he's stubbornly refusing to get himself another label suggests he's financially comfortable.

Is this retirement story in The Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisf...perfect-ending like the reunion, give some people hope and others anguish?

In the new issue of MOJO (on sale in the UK on Tuesday), we celebrate the birth of one of Britain's greatest bands, The Smiths. To accompany our mammoth cover feature, we've put together a video playlist that charts the rise and rise of Morrissey, Marr, Rourke and Joyce. We begin in Manchester. It's 1983...

Mojo : The Smiths On Film, 1983-85 - video playlist

This is a good read -The Smiths: Best band ever ?

No band captured the tormented teen soul like the Smiths. The author of a new 700-page bio explains why they matter

The terrific British music writer Tony Fletcher has just published the definitive biography of the group, “A Light That Never Goes Out: The Enduring Saga of The Smiths,” taking almost 700 pages to tell the story of just 70 songs and this essential slice of the 1980s.

£11.80 hardcover - A Light That Never Goes Out: The Enduring Saga of the Smiths - Tony Fletcher
