WinAmp Corrupting iPod

I use WinAmp to listen to my iPod at work but it appears to be writing data (possibly play counts) to the iPod causing it to be corrupted upon exiting WinAmp.

Are there database files on the iPod that can be copied off the iPod and then back on when I'm done listening to stop it doing this?

I have also tried YamiPod which also does the same thing. The files are all there and can be played by connecting to the computer but the iPod itself shows the total number of songs but will not play anything, and iTunes reports the iPod as being corrupt and goes through a complete refresh which as well as taking hours cannot be good for the hard drive inside the iPod.

Had the same problem, I believe it's largely due to way Apple configures the iPod to only work efficiently with itunes.

The only way I found round it was to ditch WinAmp and go back to itunes.

But you could try the ml_ipod plugin instead of the stock winamp one and see if that helps.

I believe you can use sharepod, which runs on your ipod, and will update listening statistics which can be exported as an xml file to import back into itunes on your home pc

To be honest, I couldn't care less about the listening stats, I just want to be able to listen to my music on my PC at work without the iPod going tits up.

Will try you suggestions guys. Thanks.
