I honestly don't know for sure as they've tweaked so much of the ages/dates between book to screen that it's all muddled in my head. I know a fair few people are worried that if they start reading the books it would diminish the show somewhat, but in my experience the only drawback in reading the books first was getting confused about the tiny tweaking they've done to character ages and the timeline for major events (like the overthrow of Aerys). I find the big changes, like Ned and Catelyn's ages are much easier to memorise (because obviously the actors look much older) but when it comes to the younger generation (Robb, Jon, Daenerys, Sansa, Arys) I'm still not sure how old they're supposed to be!

I think it was stated in one ep that Robert has reigned for 16yrs (might be 17 as smst says), so my guess would be Jon and Daenerys (who are roughly the same age in both book and show) are 16yrs old with Robb being 17.

Ratings for the finale hit a high, despite threats of people turning off (which we all knew would be nonsense). 3m viewers on the night, boding well for season 2.

Now that's a buddy movie I'd pay to see!

That was a trailer straight out of the South Park school of film.

Not having Sky, I am now eagerly awaiting this series to come out on DVD.

At least we only have another couple of weeks to wait for book 5

I’ve read a few interesting tit bits about casting for the second series.

Irobably old news, but I read Margaerry Tyrell is being played by the woman who was Anne Boleyn in The Tudors (good call IMHO)

More recent news – casting of Brienne of Tarth here:

http://grrm.livejournal.com/227044.html

Not sure about this at all - I always imagined that Brienne was somewhere between that woman who played Calamity Jane in Deadwood, and Pam Ferris (when in 'Matilda') - this woman looks pretty stunning, which isn't appropriate at all (I guess they'll ugly her up??)

Way too attractive. Looks like she has the height, but Brienne of Tarth is supposed to be big, muscley and damn ugly. I just don't see how she can play the part as conceived without putting on at least a stone of muscle and having some extensive facial work done by the make-up guys.

The whole point of Brienne isn't that she's a tall waif who can fight with the big boys, she's 6ft 6 of solid muscle who can overpower the big boys. I guess they'll just have to re-imagine her character like they did with Renly and Shae, but Brienne is a more significant character.

Maybe they should cast Tom Cruise?

Can I be a spoilsport and suggest that discussion of season 2 casting moves to the other thread? This one is supposed to have no book spoilers (and while one could argue the severity of the spoilers, there's no point: we have a spoilers-allowed thread so let's use it).

Read George's blog on the casting where (I believe) there are some other photos of her. The woman is huge, and as he mentions she will not be photoshoot pretty once in the show. His own words, in the audtion "she WAS Brienne."

Agreed, in fact I think we should ban all talk of casting for Film adaptations in the movie forums as well!
