Thanks fountainhead (and John).
Yes, they were taken with the 100-400.
There were the usual array of animals - lions, tigers, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, zebras etc. But tbh, most of my shots were of the big cats. They have a website with what you wan expect there http://www.wmsp.co.uk . The one thing that's lacking there is monkeys, apes etc. I did get a few shots of other animals, but we were only there for a couple of hours, as the heavens opened about 2/3rds through the safari. I've not gone through them all yet, but here's a few more ...

Bengal Tiger

Got a few gull shots yesterday at Aldeburgh. I haven't really identified the species yet as many are juviniles and difficult to ID (for me at least!):

Mine?

Out for scraps I

Out for scraps II

These were shot on a Nikon D50 with Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G. I didn't take my 300mm f/4 as it's a bit heavy to lug about a shingle beach all day (we walked for miles!) and I wasn't sure we'd get any photo opportunities - I was wrong about the second part though, it was a great day with very moody skies!

Thanks John. It's a bit of a monster, so it is going to take a bit of getting used to. Other than that I think it's a stunner.

Pigeons flocking near my house on Monday. Something I've tried to photograph before but the restricted view from my window and from the garden makes them quite difficult to photograph - this is the first time I've managed to catch them:

A few gull shots from Walton-On-The-Naze. I had trouble focusing on the gull because of the poor AF with my 70-300, but managed to get a few good shots - my best in-flight shot of a bird so far I think:

Riding the sea breeze

Touching down

Watching the waves

Nikon D50 and Nikkor 70-300 f/4-5.6G

I like that, the bird is detailed and there's the oof seaside houses in the background. Didn't you take your 300mm prime with you?

No, I was travelling light, just the D50, 18-55 kit lens and the 70-300g. I only take the big prime out on specific shoots. For most of the shots I took yesterday 300mm was too long, I was at the 100-200mm range for all but a few shots (this one was 240mm, the others were less), so I would have needed to change lenses a lot (not good on a pier with lots of sea spray around).

I nearly didn't take the 70-300 as I was unsure I'd get any use out of it - in the end some of the best shots of the day were taken with it!

Playing around with my new lens and had a shot that seemed nice cropped down, hope it's OK to post domestic animals, she certainly can be wild-life.

Wasn't sure whether to post this here on in the macro thread, but as I didn't use a macro lens, it'll go here:
