Tool's version of Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter", better than the original IMO.

Covers I like -

Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain - Miss Dynamitee
Metallica - Turn The Page
The Byrds - Mr Tambourine Man
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

Plus a few more that have already been mentioned.

Covers I despise -

Boyzone - Father & Son
Candy Flip - Strawberry Fields
Any of the Westlife ones

Least favourite is any cover of Bohemian Rhapsody, but especially G4's one.

Bad News do an excellent cover of Bohemian Rhapsody. You will love it

Not sure if it counts as a straight cover but Dread Zeppelin's Heartbreaker Hotel is pretty good

Some good suggestions.

...but after 20 odd years I still come back to 'Eight Miles High' performed by the venerable Husker Du as the best ever. Reduces me to a drooling idiot every time.

Worst - too many to even begin to contemplate.

Edit - Rod Stewart has managed to murder a fair few Tom Waits songs if I recall correctly...

Although I love Scissor Sister's version of 'Comfortably Numb', the Pink Floyd original can't be beaten

off top of my head I'd say my top 3:
Hendrix-Dylan's all along the watchtower
Jeff Buckley-Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah
Metallica-Whiskey in the jar, (confusingly a cover of Thin Lizzy covering some old folk band that I've never heard but anyway...

Worst 3
Razorlight-Outkast's Hey ya
David Bowie-Beach boys's god only knows (still love him though)
Blazin squad-Bone thugs harmony-crossroads

hang on, just realised that no.1 cover ever ever ever must be the manics doing 'can't take my eyes off you', put that instead of metallica.

Ratso
He certainly slaughtered Downtown Train. I've not been 'lucky' enough to hear any of his other covers of Wait's songs.

I've always been partial to The Sisters of Mercy's version of Gimme Shelter, although I admit it's not as good as the original.
