Fatal System Error On Startup - How to Fix?

Hi,

I'm really hoping someone can save my back, and it really will be appreciated if you can help me as i have quite a bit of important work on this laptop, and for some reason its just decided not to work, so right now i'm panicking a bit

I have an IBM Thinkpad R40e, and whenever i switch the laptop on its get to the bit where the Windows XP logo shows with the little scrolling bar under it which shows its loading and then it goes to the blue screen with the fatal error. The exact error can be seen below. 0xc0000005 (0x7ffe0297 0x0015fab8)

I have tried to start it in safe mode but i get the same thing.

Does anyone have any ideas on what i can do to get round this and some how fix it?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

It looks like a problem I had a while ago with a failed windows update. If you cant get into windows via safe mode, your only option is to repair windows.
