Any interest in a DVD Forums Retro Gaming Challenge Thread?

I'm thinking something similar line to the Photography Competition threads in the general. We'll bash out a set of rules, then I'll start the first thread challenging you all to hit a certain score or certain time on a retro game. To proove your score you must post a picture or movie of your 'run' The comp lasts for 2 weeks then whoever is the winner get's to choose the next game/challenge.

Anyone interested?

Proposed rules (feel free to make comments/suggestions).
Emulation is allowed (But we don't talk about it )
No cheat codes/action replays etc.
Photo/Movie evidence of achievement (no screenshots - too easy to photoshop)
Hardware version must be named (ie if challenge is on Tetris for the NES then scores for mame/gameboy versions etc won't be entered into the compo).
1 'Score' Post per thread which you update each time you break that score.

Proposed first challenge
Some sort of high score challenge on a space invaders style game.

As an exercise in one-button masochism, yes.

I'll whip myself up good in anticipation.

Sounds good.

Would be a good idea for the person suggesting the game(s) to provide links to the emulator software and ROMs so we can all have ago at the same version of the game.

I think links to emulators we can get away with, but roms I'd imagine to be a strict no-no.

But in theory the same game can run on emulators, ie emulators for xbox, PC, linux, PS2 etc.

YEah for example there's a Super Nintendo emulator for all of those above. So if the challenge was on Super Mario Kart, then as long as you owned the rom (and the original ) then you can compete in the challenge in any of those machine.

Well, like the photo comp, whoever wins gets to choose the next challenge so there's no reason why both won't appear sooner or later.

good point, although i hope someone else picks them as ime unlikely to win (unless the challange is fastest lap in my crappy java racing game and i don't let anyone else have a copy ).

anyway, whats the first one going to be? someone has to pick -> Bolch.

I like it Remember doing sessions of columns on the megadrive lasting well into the early hours of the next morning

msm13579 - I'll pick something, it'll be a Space Invaders/Galaga/Galaxian game to start with. Something to break everyone in to. EDIT - In fact no scrap that, after reading this thread I think it's a DoDonPachi challenge

What I'll do is start a new thread, tomorrow morning and get a mod to close this one.

In the meantime what does everyone think about the rules? Are they ok does anything need adding/changing?
