Yeah, the amounts of time involved are pretty significant. I've read all the books so far twice though, and I still get urges to go back and do it again when I can't find anything else I really want to read. I read a couple of Terry Brook's Shannara books, but it was like comparing cocaine and weak Nescafe. I'd imagine.

That said, I really enjoyed the second reading - you pick up on a hell of a lot of stuff that on the first reading might appear to be just background static.

I'm in roughly the same place as you. I had to go back and read that section again in case I missed something

That's exactly what I had to do. Gives you a real 'wait, that can't be right. He can't do that!' feeling. Once that's happened you know all bets are off and anything is possible . . .

Just checked dates for A Dance With Dragon in hardback on Amazon. Sept 30th on .com, Nov 3 on .co.uk.

Given that US and UK cover art has been revealed I'm guessing that he isn't too far off completion now.

Probably one of the worst of spoilers you could have clicked on

His latest blog entry suggests he's pretty confident about finishing it in the next couple of months:

Of course, I need to finish A DANCE WITH DRAGONS before I leave, or else my publishers will hunt me down and kill me. So that's pretty much all I'll be doing between now and then. And if I don't finish, maybe I'll just stay in Ireland, Portugal, or Spain, where no one will ever be able to find me.

I've added an extra warning to my spoiler above. What is it about spoilers that makes you want to click on them? I do it all the time! There's something about them... Hidden knowledge...

I just had a look at his 'Appearances' section on his website but it doesn't look like he will be in Ireland until 2010? A bit bizarre considering he says he is coming over here in late June!

Please put an approximate position for the spoiler, like "halfway through book 3" or something. I'm 200 pages into 3.2 and wish I hadn't looked at the spoiler above

It's getting very good though, plot twists all over! I just hope he doesn't split into too many threads like Jordan tends to, this is about as many as I want at this point.

Just want to thank people for mentioning The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie. Am halfway through the second book in the series and its fantastic, cant put it down.

Highly recommended for anyone waiting an age for the next one in this series!

Amazon.co.uk now has April 2009 for the hardback, May for the paperback. If you read his blog - it's not finished, and he's on holiday in Spain

And for all the people who clicked on the thread thinking 'OMFG has it been published?' - sorry!

There's always a pang of excitement whenever I see this thread bumped for just that reason... even though I follow the blog and know full well the current status and how far behind he is. It's just blind hope!

I have just moved on to the second book. Obviously it is very enjoyable and well written. Has anybody got any ideas how I can ration my reading so that I can coincide ending the series with the writing, as this seems to be a problem for people? Thanks for the original thread as this has got me back into reading fantasy books after a long break.
