Dodgy discs manufactured by Technicolor UK - help me compile a list please!

Hey peeps
Following on from this discussion about the R2 "Terminator" dvd problems it appears that there are various dvds affected by the "clouding / misting" problem.

I have checked all my R2 MGM discs (the studio who released the problem Terminator discs) and several of them are affected by the same problem.

It appears that ALL those affected were manufactured by Technicolor UK - and I'm guessing that the affected discs were manufactured within a certain timeframe.

So, what I want to do is compile a list of R2 discs manufactured by Technicolor UK so that it can be determined when these dodgy discs were made and how wide spread the problem is.

For more details on the whole problem refer to the linked thread.

To see if a disc is manufactured by Technicolor you need to look on the inner ring on the underside of the disc.

Please list the title, studio and whether or not it is affected by the "clouding / misting" problem.

If you own any of the discs listed below please check them!

Technicolor UK discs with the clouding problem:

Terminator - MGM
Silence of the Lambs - MGM
Rocky Boxset - MGM
Midnight Cowboy - MGM
The Night of the Hunter - MGM
No way out - MGM

Technicolor UK discs without the clouding problem:

Shallow Grave - MGM
Goldeneye - MGM
Licence to Kill - MGM
Living Daylights - MGM
Spy Who Loved Me - MGM

Brother - VCI/FilmFour
Sexy Beast - VCI/FilmFour
The Yards - VCI/FilmFour
Hamlet - VCI/FilmFour
Dancer in the Dark - VCI/FilmFour
The Last Seduction - Carlton
The Red Shoes - Carlton
Chicken Run - Fox/Pathe

Also there is another issue that's been brought to my attention. Some Technicolor produced discs seem to have cracks in the centre hub. To read more on this goto this thread. It seems to mostly affect Star Trek TNG & DS9 sets.

Never Say Never Again is cloudy and sticky. Thunderball and For Your Eyes Only are looking a bit suspect (what looks to be the beginning of cloudiness and sticky) but no real problems as yet. Bound is sticky

hmmmm
seems the "Pi" disc wasn't made by Technicolor but I can't read the company name - looks like: SN4WiV (except that the i is upside down) Anyone know what company this is? Lots of my R2 discs are made by them.

Same Problem - Other Company

Bound - 20th Century Fox/Pathe

Cannot decipher the company name but it looks as though it may be by the same company who manufactured "Pi"

Oh ******* hell, this is unbelievable. My Never Say Never Again is cloudy, but Thunderball is fine. Obviously it's not the digipack packaging.

Think we could get MGM to replace these too? We deserve that right.

I have already posted this months ago - it is not only T1 and Silence that have the sticky-cloudy problem but at that time nobody seemed to be interested. Everybody was just furious about their T1 discs.
However, i cleaned all faulty discs with soap, water and a soft cloth and everything seems to be fine now. The surfaces are still clean. After cleaning the discs the sticky clouds don't seem to return.
And yes - it definitely has nothing to do with cardboard digipacks.

You should also add THE GOOD THE BAD THE UGLY (second pressing without booklet) to the list of faulty MGM discs.

Technicolour should replace the discs and offer a public apology instead of MGM - it's not their fault.

So the've done it again!! I remeber stories from the mid-80s about CDs manufactured by Nimbus that deteriorated due to some oxidisation issue.... history repeats itself.... and some never seem to learn from past mistakes

Actually NIMBUS was bought out by Technicolour I believe. At least the Technicolour plant up the orad from me used to be a NIMBUS anyway. Very poor operation (and I say this from briefly working their and seeing the quality of the place ).

okay, so in that case I'm gonna assume that these Nimbus problem discs were made by Technicolor too - seeing as these two companies have links and the fact that Technicolor have pressed other Pathe titles.

And oh yeah! - I was reading "Nimbus" upside down in my earlier post - d'oh!

Other Pathe DVD's by Technicolcor

Dances with Wolves and Chicken Run. They play ok but Dances with Wolves has a coffee stain look to it around the centre.

I noticedthat a few of my DVD's are like that but didn't notice it with DWW when I bought it though.

I just rechecked my Thunderball and it is not manufactured by Technicolor but a different company. Could have MGM changed plants?

It is something like Vawanz ??? Maybe someone can work it out.

Posted letters of complaint to M.G.M. and Technicolor within the last few days. Will wait until I hear what they have to say before deciding whether or not to pursue the matter.
