Slightly off topic, but anyone who doesn't get their fill of gore from 'The Walking Dead' tonight, can follow it up later with George A Romero's 'Day of the Dead' on BBC2 at 12.55am

This better be good - in anticipation of tonight I just had to hack off the top of a tree in our garden that was causing problems with satellite reception.

Has any first episode of a new show ever had this much hype?

Lost? I don't know.

I didn't think it was that good personally but there's a lot of promise. Reminded me of I am legend (the book) and I am legend (the film)

Agreed, really enjoyed it and looking forward to more. I was constantly referring to the Zombie Survival Guide to ensure accuracy and generally they were on the money.

Well it transpired that hacking the top off that tree was a good decision. Really excellent first episode. Loved the scene where Egg (as he shall be forever known) went looking for the first "walker" (crawler) he'd seen.

The poor horse though!

Yep, good opening, really enjoyed it.

As I said in an earlier post, I haven't read any of the comics, so dont know whats to come, but apparently this is (so far) very faithful to the comics.

Also liked that it didn't go for any needless 'shocks' or 'jump' moments - was expecting a one or two as he wandered around the hospital, and in the darkness, but no - just well paced, letting the story unfold.

Roll on episode 2 - but the only thing I'm not looking forward to is the ad breaks - was great that they showed the first episode ad free, but it was still fairly clear on FX where they would have been, and there were quite a few (sudden cuts to black), but without them it just played out well - next week will be a Sky+ and watch later, I think.

just watched the first ep

very good - liked the way they haven't made it very flashy/expensive looking

wonder if we get to see Lennie James again?

Thought this was a great pilot.

Nice slow build-up, good character, bit of intrigue. Good scene setter for a first series.

Masterful stuff.
Extremely faithful to the first 2 issues of the comic, but with far greater emotional subtext added to Lennie James' character.

Sound design and music all perfect. Long silences just work best for horror.

With the point about the colour palette, the show was shot on Super16 stock apparently, so it has this nice grungy sort of look as a result.

If it was really going for it of course it would be in glorious black and white, but thats what Blu Ray is for ;-).

Now, I had the 6th Hardcover of the comic turn up yesterday too, so on we shamble... I hope this show is on the air for a long, long time.

i think we can all agree that the first "half dead" zombie by the bicycle was spot on - exactly how i would have imagined it in ( i also liked the way when rick went to kill it, unlike the comic, she/it had crawled away)

Not sure it needed that pre-credits scene now. Should have started in the car.
