Streaming Music to PS3

Well I have managed this successfully with WM11 but I get no artwork on the PS3? WM11 automatically downloads the artwork on my PC in the same folder as the songs but these pictures don't show on the PS3 on playback via streaming or copying, any ideas please?

Use PS3 Media Server, it is the easiest way to stream any media to the PS3 and then add a folder.jpg to each album folder and that will show up on the PS3 as well. No idea whether it is even possible using WMP11 but PS3 Media Server can be up and running in 2 mins with very little hassle.

+1 for PMS.

If your MP3s already have embedded album art tags, then it displays these automatically...as mentioned above, the "folder.jpg" method works too...

Can I just clarify this - currently a given album has several files in it:

wmas

JPEGs (usually 4)

desktop ini

Thumbs.db

You say that I should add a 'folder.jpg' but i am notsure what you mean, sorry to be dumb.

Literally get the front cover artwork and make a copy of it and name it folder.jpg, save it in the same folder as the album and Robert's your mother's brother. Point PS3 Media Server at the media locations on your PC and select the PS3 Media Server icon on the PS3 media bar instead of the WMP11 one.

Also make sure WMA playback is enabled in the PS3 system settings of course (probably already done)!

Thanks very much for the above, the weird thing is that there is alreay a piece of artwork associated in each folder in the way you describe, but the PS3 does not pick it up from WM11 - I can only assume that it is impossible and will have to mov eover to the media server you suggest, which I was trying to avoid!

Thanks again to all

You won't regret moving to PS3 MS. Its such a doddle and does pretty much everything I want it to do and is so easy even the wife can use it

I used to use WM11, as it took me a while to work it out so didnt want to change, but I couldnt go back now.

Thanks KRW - what else can I do with this? I want to stream tracks and photos, set up albums and play-lists etc., does the PS3 MS make this easier as well?

Another thing I would like to do is play a whole opera without gaps in between tracks is this possible too? I know I can't do it with my phone but am unsure whether I will be able to do it here, but hope so. Also is it possible to fade one track in as the next starts? And what about playing particular gebnres of music ie, classical, rock, ambient, party etc?

One final slightly off topic question you may be able to answer. I want to get teh audio setting right for my PC and I noticed that when I played 'The Wall live in Berlin' as a DVD in the PS3 that the camera moved in quite a juddery way. I was surprised and think it might be a setting I have gotten wrong. My TV is a Panasonic plasm but only 1980i so I have put this setting in, however I think that the PS3 is set at 24frames (whatever that means) but I am not sure my TV is - any ideas would be welcomed.

I have just managed to get the PS3 playing through my receiver in 5.1 through optical AND my TV through HDMI yeah! Loving the PS3 so far.

If you are playing a PAL dvd you should set screen outout to 50Hz. 24hz is for Bluray.

For network music playback I have always inserted the artwork into the tag as this has been the method for XBMC. itunes etc.

Anthony - does this mean I have to keep changing the settings according to the media I use or will the PS3 work it out and remember separately? Also will my TV work ok at 24hz for BR?

Sorry mate I don't have a PS3 or know anything about your particular TV but PAL is 50Hz or 25Hz interlaced which would account for the juddering on pans.

PS3 Media Server will stream music, pictures and video. Tbh I have never used a playlist from the network side and I tend to copy tracks across and make a playlist on the PS3 itself (generally for gaming where it can't stream over the network, but only play local audio) where it works like a charm.

There is an option in the PS3 settings somewhere for sequential playback for video stored in the same folder. Audio should stream one after another if in the same folder and there is a cross fade option somewhere in the settings as well iirc. As for playing by genres, PS3 Media Server has a media library function that will read your audio file tags and you can then browse by genre, album etc.

Sorry I couldn't answer everything but hopefully some of that should help, good luck!
