$$$$$$

Live action remakes of Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Beast & The Beast & The Jungle Book all made loads of cash & they have a ready-built audience. They'll keep churning them out until they stop earning.

Dumbo, Aladdin, Lady & The Tramp, Mulan & even Lilo & Stitch are all coming soon or on the slate.

Doesn't look terrible. The voice cast is decent & Favreau & his CGI team did a great job with The Jungle Book. I imagine like Beauty it'll be nearly identical to the animated version, with a few more songs to pad the running time.

live action, where everything is CGI...
Utterly pointless, like the remake of Beauty and the Beast, but it'll make a bazillion dollars so what do I know?

Agree with this. At least Beauty and the Beast had several humans in key roles which could be portrayed by live actors.

I have the same issue with the Dumbo remake; only slightly less as IIRC the Dumbo original was actually all hand drawn animation unlike Lion King which is already all computer generated images anyway.

At least from the trailer it looks like they've changed the story a bit for Dumbo.

Agree with what's been posted. How can they call this live action?

Well, having slated/questioned the need for this film.

Having watched it - not having to pay for it helped ... I think I am going to have to say it is probably the first remake I have seen which is actually better than the original

IIRC? How old do you think Dumbo is? You're really playing it safe with that disclaimer!

So did anyone here actually see this?

Caught it last night &, astonishing technical achievement aside, it did very little for me.

As expected, it's mostly identical to the animated version, just dragged out a bit longer & with an extra song or two. I felt absolutely zero emotional connection to any of it, & the sight of 'real' animals talking is just weird.

The score's still great & the songs are still catchy, but besides money (hello $1.6bn boxoffice!) & being a nice showreel for the FX companies involved, there is absolutely no reason for this to exist.

(Minor caveat: the Beauty & the Beast 'Be Our Guest' riff did make me laugh out loud)

Its completely soulless, and Jon Favreau sets Can You Feel the Love Tonight in the broad daylight, which pretty much sums up the amount of thought he put into the film, and this is the guy who people are all excited about him overseeing some of the future star wars properties?

I guess this might be a bit too scary/intense for the youngest kids, under 5s ? The some of the ratings would seem to suggest so ...

And Bambi is up next with the writer from.... Captain Marvel

They should just sell Star Wars off to someone who gives a **** about it and remake their own films infinitum.

Well they all seem to do really well, we can probably see all the catalogue coming back. The aristocats with real cats (or cgi real cats). Ratatouille, a real sewer rat cooking people meals. For ever

To answer my own question ... nope, it's fine even for the youngest kids.

I see the live action Lady & the Tramp went straight to Disney+, so someone clearly realised that was a terrible idea too late to stop production...
