After the Lord Mayor's show for City, but Liverpool have got to be very happy with the result.

What happens if liverpool or united win the europa but are outside the top four? Does forth lose a CL place, or will there be five English teams in the CL?

4th is gone to winner of Europa league assuming an English winner outside top 4.

It depends ...

The only way 4th place doesn't make the CL is if English teams win the CL AND the EL and both of them finish outside the Top 4. In that scenario 4th place goes into the EL.

No country can have more than 5 teams in the CL.

Cor, a gift from their keeper and looked like a dive for the pen. Played well with 10 but got out of jail today.

I don't believe it...

We beat Palace away. When your luck's in, your luck's in.

Full time in the Palace end was not the best place for a LFC fan to be

Our first goal was a gift but we played far better than them when we had one less player.

Couldn't tell from my position ( in the opposite corner of the ground ) if it was a penalty but have since seen the replay numerous times and you clearly see Delaney's knee clatter into Benteke's foot - and you would expect a 'side on' lino less than 15 yards away to have a better view than the referee who is behind the play

Not sure clatter as the right word, slightly touch is more accurate, nowhere near enough to bring down anything but the modem professional footballer!

Maybe clatter was a bit OTT but the replay clearly shows contact, and as the pundits say every other time when a player needlessly dives in (getting nowhere near the ball) ... Delaney only had himself to blame.

I didn't see the penalty as I had to go out, but the ref was shocking all game and didn't seem to know what a tackle was. It was like a ref in the Europa league

Made up with the win and it's great to see some fighting spirit instilled in the team-3 months ago going down to ten when already behind would've resulted in a 2 or 3 nil defeat. As for the penalty not sure how that was one and Moreno's on Aguero from last week wasn't

Apparently it is the firet time in the club's history they have been losing, then had a player sent off, and won the game.

Who gives a ****?

They come up with these stats all the time in the US and honestly who cares?

I am pretty sure we are not far from stats like "it's the first time a left footed player passed the ball with his right foot to a right footed player whose first touch was with his left foot and we won the game"

Big hairy deal. We won, yay! Next.

Just pathetic from whichever bitter Palace fan ( and his 1500 fellows) set this up.

He was clipped, he went down. Get over it

This from the Fiver yesterday puts that in context:

QUOTE OF THE DAY

25 October 2015: “They put their legs out and I felt a touch so I went down” – Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha after the game against Leicester City.

6 March: “I’ve just heard Jamie Carragher saying there was contact and [Christian] Benteke was within his rights to go down. Jamie Carragher is saying that? He’s an ex-pro. Come on. We’ve had decisions ignored this season where Wilf gets completely wiped out” – a funky Alan Pardew after Liverpool’s last-minute penalty winner against Palace on Sunday.

I'm sure Pardew has publically called him out on diving also?

Zaha got a booking for diving in that Leicester game though (despite there being clear contact), where as Benteke gets a penalty. I think this is the frustrating thing (which is then exacerbated by how desperate we are for points!). If the roles were reversed, both sets of fans would be acting like the other set, it's the nature of the game today, so we just have to accept it and move on IMO.

Pardew is right in what he says about Zaha getting wiped out fairly regularly and the referee ignoring it though. I think the stats say he is one of the most fouled player in the league...a shame that he isn't given a little more protection, but I suppose when you get a reputation (no matter if deserved or not), it can affect the official's decisions.

That petition is embarrassing.

I agree that it was a dive, but to start a petition to get Benteke banned and Liverpool fined points is just dumb. As much as we hate it, it happens every week in football, and the only way to stop it is to give officials video evidence.

I believe they are looking at bringing it in within a few years, I really hope they do. There is more than enough to talk about in football without everyone having to spend the time they do talking about bad decisions.

The problem is that even with video reviews you don't have consensus. You have guys like Shearer talking about 'being entitled to go down' if there's the slightest bit of contact which drives me potty.

The only time it would really work is where it's clear there is no contact at all and a player has just flung themselves to the ground.

I think there are further grey areas as well, I think you don't have to touch them. I recall the year when Robbie Fowler said the keeper never touched him but got a penalty anyway, the argument was that it didn't matter, his actions caused him to fall over.

Replays would stop diving though, the only problem is it'd be difficult not to book players for diving
