Streaming music/video with wireless

I've been wanting device to stream music and video to my TV in the living room. Seems that both Philips and D-Link have finally released their boxes to do this. D-Link DSM-320 (£150) http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop...ShopGroupID=43

and the Philips Streamium http://www.streamium.com/products/sl300i/

Both look pretty good, nice simple setup (no X-Box and wireless bridge ).

Just wondering if anyone has either of these yet?

Philips says it can play Xvid and DivX - D-Link says only Xvid.

I've been streaming media for ages with a Pinnacle Showcentre - there's a new wireless G version as well, which should be even better.

I've had no experience of those 2, except I did some research before buying the Showcentre and the DLink seems to be universally panned (in America where it's been around for a while) for unreliability and buggy code, which was why I got the showcentre (and it was only £100).

I would search the web for reviews before parting with your cash.

As people have said before running WEP security (or WPA) will slow the wireless network down.
I have ended up streaming audio/video using a wired connection. Its more stable.

I've seen the showcentre in PC World and was tempted till I saw it was only 11b. Maybe the updated version will be better. I have a 32" TV right now, but intend to upgrade to 42" Panasonic plasma shortly.

I managed to find some reviews of the D-Link, mostly from the US... and mostly negative as you say. The Streamium has only just been released, so haven't found any reviews yet. Maybe it's still a bit too early for these devices.

Theres a new Netgear one coming out soon. IIRC its 54g. Using WEP shouldn't slow it down that much.

Dsm-320

The UK version of the DSM-320 is meant to be much better. I bought and then sold a Linksys Wireless B Media device (WMA11B I think) which had a disastrous driver that required the .net framework installed - but only the version on the CD. If you had any other version it didn't work.

The ones to look out for if money is no object are the Roku devices which Roku are beginning to ship to the UK and which support HDTV for plasma users out there !

I know nothing about the Pinnacle but will look it up now.
