Any other recommendations for good stuff. I haven't gamed for about 10 years so am somehat out of the loo. I have a preference for platformers, Doom type games and sport stuff?

Cheers
Ring Fit Adventure is good and a surprisingly intense workout if you push yourself. I'm reasonably fit, I ride and walk every day and I can work up a sweat on this.

The Doom games and Wolfestein are on the Switch. Check out other FPS games in this article:

For platformers, I love Hollow Knight, Shovel Knight, Celeste and Dead Cells.

Mario Odyssey is absolutely fantastic.

My left joy con stick has started to drift upwards randomly. I know it was a known issue with early ones but thought I'd got away with it. I did read somewhere that Nintendo fixed them even after the warranty period but can't find no mention of it anywhere. I don't fancy sending it off to them only to be given a silly price for a repair.

I don't think the kits are too expensive to buy to fix it yourself, has anyone tried one? I've re calibrated and cleaned it with a brush just in case but it was no help.

Can’t you recalibrate in settings a few times?

Its only in US where you can get it repaired for free. We are out of luck here. Although I have heard of some people in Europe have success with getting a free repair, but not a guaranteed thing.

Annoyingly Nintendo haven't actually fixed the design and repaired/new joycons will develop the same problem again in future.

Mine drifts left and is an absolute nightmare in Animal Crossing due to the high sensitivity controls. Generally I wiggle the joystick which seems to improves things a bit.

That's how I noticed it, you go to dig or lay a path and it quite often missed the spot. At first I thought it was just a clunky game mechanism. Given the price of new Joy Cons and the fact that the issue isn't solved I may have to get a thumb stick kit and try a repair.

I've had my Switch for 2.5 years and about 6 months ago the left stick was drifting up quite a lot. I tried re-calibrating and cleaning with compressed air but none of that helped.

I ended up ordering a kit like this:-
Affiliated Link

And changed it myself. The kit came with 2 joysticks and all the tools you needed.

It was a pretty straightforward job, fiddly and some of the bits are quite tiny, but not that hard to do. The kit comes with a link to a Youtube video showing the process.

My right stick started to drift too a couple of weeks ago so I replaced that as well. Slightly fiddlier since that controller has a camera in it but basically the same process.
