Fire at Universal backlot - King Kong, BTTF destroyed!

Not sure if this is a Movie or Gen Forum discussion..

The 'Video Vault' at Universal has been completely destroyed by fire, various reports suggest the original negative for King Kong was in there, along with the sets for Back To The Future, Jurrasic Park & War of The Worlds.

Sounds like an incalcuable loss to film.

Reports are all over the place about what is or what might be lost.

Lets just wait and see what the score is.

On the ITV just now they seem to be suggesting that a new film was being shot there, any idea if this it true as to what it might be ?

Looks like you're right, latest reports suggest there are copies of the videos in the vault stored elsewhere, just the sets which were destroyed (and by copies, I'm assuming they're master copies).

''Save the clock tower''

Sadly it'll have to be rebuilt.

The silent footage is like something out of a movie itself

Yeah, the video I saw on TV was pretty dramatic, it's a wonder they ever get those things under control.

Good that the film vault stuff has copies elsewhere but I can't imagine how much stuff (props, sets etc.) have been destroyed. Glad I got to see the BTTF set before this!

I'm glad I went on the tour last year and saw the BTTF set. I would hope they would rebuild it as it's one of the high points of the tour for many I would expect.

Knowing Universal that footage will appear in half-a-dozen TV disaster movies over the next couple of years.

I can tell everyone with certainty that the BTTF Delorean survived it. It was in the town square in Canterbury, Kent yesterday! I'll add pics when I get in!

From what i've seen, the clocktower has survived, but the rest of the square was destroyed for the umpteenth time.

Although I think there might be more than one knocking about (at Universal Studios California, for example), this is probably the actual Florida one because didn't they close the ride fairly recently?

What was the reason for its appearence in Canterbury?

Really wish I knew. Think it was for a local charity - a fiver to get your picture taken while sat inside it.

Think thats likely. It was built over the set for the dinosaur nursery for The Lost World: Jurassic Park wasn't it?
