I've finished my novel - Monkey Arkwright

Inspired by Taq and Wowbagger putting their books on Amazon, a little under two years ago, I dusted off an idea and resolved to write my novel. I'm proud to say that the result, Monkey Arkwright, is now available for pre-order on Amazon:-

Monkey Arkwright eBook: Rob Campbell: Amazon.co.uk: Kindle Store

I've done the recommended stuff for new authors; Facebook, Twitter and set up my own website, but I was hoping that I could get some help from my fellow forum members for those all-important early reviews.

You can find more info on my website, but in short, I set out to write a story that had the same sense of adventure as Stand By Me or The Goonies. The recent success of Stranger Things shows that there's a market for this kind of thing, and I'm hoping that people will enjoy my story.

Here's my website, via which you can get a free short story featuring my main villain:-

https://monkeyarkwright.wordpress.com/

and here's the blurb:-

Quote:
Budding writer Lorna Bryson is struggling to come to terms with the recent death of her father when she meets Monkey Arkwright, the boy who loves to climb. The two strike up an immediate rapport, and Monkey challenges her to write about him, claiming that he can show her things that are worth writing about.

True to his word, Lorna is catapulted into Monkey’s world of climbing and other adventures in the churches, woodlands and abandoned places in and around their home town of Culverton Beck.

When the two teenagers find an ancient coin in the woods, claims from potential owners soon flood in, including the mysterious Charles Gooch, who is adamant that the coin is his. But this is only the opening act in a much larger mystery that has its roots in some dark deeds that took place more than a century earlier.

Combining their talents, Lorna and Monkey set about fitting the pieces together in a tale of budding friendship, train-obsessed simpletons, the shadow of Napoleon and falling pianos.

Will do. Are you publishing soon? What stage are you at?

And thanks, I really appreciate the support.

Have no intention of writing one at the moment, I just reckon I should be able to sell 100 copies based on who owes me one.

Looks an interesting premise, looking forward to reading it. Keep us posted, I think we managed to get the In Vitro Lottery to 2nd in the best sellers Dystopian section by plugging it when it was free.

Fair enough. I know you were encouraging for Taq's book. Hopefully I won't disappoint. If there's one thing that you can be sure of, it's that I'll keep everybody posted. I've got very modest expectations, so it'll be interesting to see how things go. Amazon stats say 5 pre-order so far, which will be work colleagues and forum members.

If you could put up your Twitter handle I can re-tweet stuff for you.

The following FB groups aren't full of psychopaths, and usually share some helpful stuff.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/booksgosocialauthors/
https://www.facebook.com/groups/allwritedj/

The BGS review groups are below. I've had mixed success with the non-buying one...

Wow, even if I don't sell too many books, this whole exercise has already been worth it.

I had a nice reply on Twitter from thriller writer David Morrell, creator of RAMBO no less, in response to my blog post on his books. I've recommended his books to many over the years, including some posts on these forums. Here's my original blog post:-

I think it's got to be a fairly slow game in the Kindle world. I doubt Taq has made himself a millionaire, but I eagerly await the next book. So try and sell a few, get some reviews and then do some free deals to shift a few.

Depends if you feel you've got a few books in you, I suppose.

I've basically paid people to read my novel, once promotion and other services etc are factored in compared to sales. But hey, some people seem to be doing okay! It's just a case of catching a break and continued exposure.
I just consider it a hobby rather than a business, which certainly helps.

I have modest expectations - I've spent a lot of time on this, and I agree with Taq that it's just a hobby at the moment. I just want people to read my work and get a few reviews on the board - those are my only targets at the moment. I'll definitely be doing some type of promotion in the new year.

Yes, I noticed that they'd reviewed your book. I need to mail my book to a few review sites, but I've only done one so far.

Day #1 sales figures are in!
Will I be heading down to Monte Carlo to reserve my berth in the marina? Or will I have to settle for a paddle down the Manchester Ship Canal in a canoe? Find out in my blog:

Cheers. I appreciate the support.

Until I posted on the blog, I'd had no visits to my website. In the last hour or so, I've had a few visits. Maybe there's something to this social media lark!
